focused fishing Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 For a 1/2 oz football jig I am a big fan of the Falcon Low Rider Eakins Jig Rod, fast soft tip, good length (6'10") and a good price around $120. For heavier jigs the Falcon McCleland football jig rod is hard to beat, a littel longer and not as stiff of a tip to handle the heavier baits. techo Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Ham, You kind of hit the nail on the head for me, regarding equipment, time on the water and combos. I still have and use the BPS green combos a great deal. I have picked them all up when on sale for $99.99. I also have a couple of Rick Clunn combos. I love using them. Falcom rods are probably my favorite though. I am slowly replacing rods with the Falcons and upgrading as time passes. I did have a sponsor offer from a guy out of Illinois, but the rods didn't feel that good to me and I would rather buy my own. A lot of folks enjoy his creations, but it is a personal preference thing. I am sure everyone knows.......Shimano owns Loomis. Still.....time on the water trumps expensive equipment every time. techo Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Not Outlaw rods. I don't want to speak poorly of any company. They were extremely nice, just not the rod for me. I have heard of Outlaw rods. Have you ever tried them? Tim Carpenter

techo Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Bass Pro has some Falcons. They are two rows to the south of the reel counter. They have a few of the Eakin's jig rods too. I can't remember if they were $104.00 or $114.00. They seemed to have a little stiffer tip than I usually like. They are also a little different color than the other Falcons. Capt Don. The Outlaw rods look nice on their Web site. Waiting to see the other rods on 2nd or 3rd though. Tim Carpenter

I buy Falcon rods online. Maybe a few bucks cheaper... they're usually in stock.
Gary Lange Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 Well I went to Bass Pro last night and looked at the Rods. I checked to Falcon rod which was nice and light but was selling for about $140.00. I have several of BPS's Bionic Blades which have given me great service and I like them. I picked out a Medium Heavy 7' Bionic Blade and then went to the reel counter for the BPS Bionic Plus Reel to finish out the deal. Well the young man saw I had the Bionic Rod and checked the book and cut it to a Combo deal and saved me about $30.00. I picked up the Combo for $109.00 vs the separate prices of $80.00 for the Rod and $60.00 for the Reel. I have several of the Bionic Reels and they have been great and given me good service. I am happy with the purchase and hope to get out and give it a try. Thanks all for giving me the direction to go as I was unsure mostly on what weight and length to get.
