S&M Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I know I know, this might seem like a silly topic asking about fishing goals, but I'm a goal oriented guy. So do any of you have something you want to improve on or perhaps fish a body of water you've never been on, maybe buying a boat or tackle ? Lets hear what you'd like to see for yourself in 2009. Heck even getting out of bed and getting down to do some fishing is a goal. My goals for the 2009 season are to catch a limit of bass every tournament this year and make the Championship fish off. Last season for 2008 my goal was to make the Championship tournament, which I did, but I didn't have a very stellar catch ratio. I would like to win a tournament this season, but I think thinking that way will put to much undue pressure on me, so I'm saving that for next year. Another one of my personal goals is to learn and execute jerk bait fishing, frankly I suck at it, and I tried it last year for the first time and didn't catch anything. Also on the list is to start dissecting the Baxter area of the lake. I spent all of last year learning the Kimberly City to the mouth of the James River from Aunts creek. I have sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much to learn still. How do I deal with those who ignore the 50 yard encroachment rule?......I show them just how accurate I am with a crank bait!
Flippin Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I am trying to learn how fish through the winter (not that I dont have a lot to learn the rest of the year). This group of guys has helped me out a lot.
Bill Babler Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Take a quick peek at Table Rock Articles. Some great stuff there on Stickbaits. Also check out my Spring Fishing article, it also holds some good stickbait tips. Maybe more than any other place The White River Chain is stickbait heaven, and most of the guides here are masters at it. It is my number one favorite bait to fish. Probably even like it better than topwater. Maybe worth your wile to take one of our local jerkbait fiends on a 1/2 day guide lesson and get the handle on what we look for. Locations, being the key as much as anything. Bill Beck is excellent with the bait Buster really has no equal, His hand painted baits are vey good Tim Paige is very good Tim Sainato if you can get him is also very, very good with the suspending baits. Don't know how much Capt. Don fishes the stickbait. Do know he likes to look at the fish he is catching, so he might prefer the spoon. Most all the guides here fish them way more than we should and would love to show ya. Just a thought, not drumbing up business or anything. My goals for 2009 are to try and learn new locations. Even after 30 years of fishing this pond, I find some new spots every year. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
techo Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 This is an awesome discussion topic. I set goals up each year. This past year I really focused on learning more of the lake, the jig and increasing time on water. 2009 I would like to learn more of the lake, but start working on a few other lakes too. I am not sure of which bait I will focus on. I might try a bit more of the drop shotting. I started experimenting with it in 2008. I would also like to make it to the Championship for AIA. I doubt if we will, but it is a goal. Overall I just want to have fun. I have a goal each time I go out. Sometimes a bunch of little goals turn into some real fun. I appreciate the help and different views shared on this forum. I fish the same area of the lake you do, but would like to start exploring the other arm a bit. The dam doesn't thrill me with the number of fishermen down there. Good fishing I am sure, but the crowd can take a bit of the joy out of it. Best of luck on your goals. Tim Carpenter
denjac Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 My goal this year is to catch all the crappie that I didnt catch last year!! We all got spoiled last year as far as the shallow bite goes. Who knows what this year will bring. I would also like to see an OAF Bass tournament this year on the Rock. Could be a draw tournament with OAF members. Fish for bragging rights or maybe some money. Would be a great way to meet everyone. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Gary Lange Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 My goal is to get out more next year and learn more about fishing this deep water lake. I caught a few in the Spring as they were coming out onto the points. I want te expand on that and get into some catching after they move to deeper water and beyond. Respect your Environment and others right to use it!
edwin Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 My main goal for 2009 is to teach my daughters (8 and 5) to be a bit more self sufficient when fishing. I love to take em out, they love to go, but I'd sure like to wet a line myself when we're out. Secondarily, I'd like to like to gather a list of go to fishing spots based on the times of the year. I had a couple bass boats from 98 -02, just getting back into it again. "Advantages are taken, not handed out"
