timsfly Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 http://www.cassville-democrat.com/story/1490200.html I have seen this numerous times on the prarie between RRSP and Washburn Missouri. I wish I had a better camera, sometimes you can get 10 or 15 yds from the before they will fly, I think they are full of dead chickens, you see this around chicken farms a lot around Cassville. DD'sMC Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 That photo is very similar to what duckydoty and I witnessed just a few weeks ago on Osage Creek just outside Berryville, AR. I wonder if a group of eagles like that flies together as a flock??? We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. The two best times to go fishing? When it is raining and when it is not.
duckydoty Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I guess they (the MDC) needs to start having Eagle Days around the chicken CAFO's instead of the locks and dams on the Mississippi??? A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
DD'sMC Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I guess they (the MDC) needs to start having Eagle Days around the chicken CAFO's instead of the locks and dams on the Mississippi??? Probably ain't gonna happen!!!! We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. The two best times to go fishing? When it is raining and when it is not.
timsfly Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Best place in Missouri to view eagles is around a chicken farm. There are always a few around. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
Terry Beeson Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Are the chicken farms still allowed to "dump" dead chickens here? I know the eagles use to be all over my farm back in Arkansas around the shallow lake on my place and the reason was all the chicken farms in the area and the dumped dead birds. The numbers reduced when the farmers were forced to use alternate methods to dispose of the dead birds. If you can find a shallow body of water in those areas, you should see lots of eagles. They love to sit over them and catch fish. I've viewed up to 28 on that lake back home that has a 40 acre surface area. Use to have some really good videos. Tim... I've got a Nikon D40 with a 70-200mm AF lens and a 70-300mm that manually focuses on the D40. What camera are you using? timsfly Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 I have a point and shoot water proof Olympus SW720, I like is because it is waterproof and I'm around the water quite a bit. . Terry Beeson Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Yeah, I almost went into cardiac arrest NYD when Flysmallie took his D40 into Taney... If it had be a D90, I WOULD have.... I want to get some eagle shots this winter. I went to Springfield Lake, but didn't see any. Got a few long distance goose and duck flights and landings, but nothing to brag about. Need a 500mm. I'm taking donations for the "Terry Beeson Lens Bailout Fund" if anyone would like to contribute... I may have to come over pretty soon and get you to point me towards some of those birds, Tim... Hey, I had it stuck down in my waders. Just start heading towards Roaring River and you will see them. Last Friday when I took Tiffani we saw the first one just south of Aurora. We gave up counting them after we saw the seventh one and we still hadn't even passed Tim's shop yet. They are everywhere but you do need a long lens. I tried taking pics of one at 200mm and it just wouldn't cut it. I either have to get closer or drop the cash for a 600mm lens. I think I'll just try to get closer for now!
Quillback Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 It may be too far for you to drive, but SWEPCO lake near Gentry AR, in the northwest corner of the state west of Bentonville, has a good population of eagles during the winter. There's even an "eagle viewing trail" there. Should be some good photo opps.
