Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 9, 2009 Root Admin Posted January 9, 2009 "I started to weigh in on this earlier, but didn't since I wasn't sure about it. Phil, I think with your earlier statement that "Quinton told me a person who has 4 trout in his possession can keep fishing.", you actually meant to say you cannot keep fishing." I did not make a mistake. MK is right- it pertains to the trout parks only. "A person may fish on Taneycomo lake after keeping four trout." An MDC agent just emailed me this statement. I'll email Mike Abdon and forward him this topic url. He may want to weigh in since his name has been brought up.
loo10 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Will a re-print of this topic suffice in court? I hope you're right Phil....although my money's on "Keep 4 and done." It'd be nice to keep four for supper (or breakfast) and then just fish for awhile. bigredbirdfan Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Fish frys at lunch are a thing of the past I guess. You can't beat fresh trout filets for lunch.
Micheal Kyle Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I'm confused now It will be interesting to see what Mike says I still think he would write you a ticket maybe not. All I know is what I have seen in the past on a lot of streams not just with Taneycomo and Trout. To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 10, 2009 Root Admin Posted January 10, 2009 How in the world can an agent prove in court beyond a shadow of a doubt that a person fishing on the Lake Taneycomo is fishing specifically for trout? Think about it. Even fishing below the dam. There have been dozens of guys fishing for walleye and bass in the last 10 months. Tell me you think one of those guys, catching and keeping 4- 10 inch rainbows, would have to stop throwing his rogue. Another for instance- fishing on the lower lake, you're throwing a jig and catching trout and crappie and a few bass. You keep 4 rainbows and you have a few crappie and bass but want to keep a few more crappie for the freezer. Does he have to stop? Heck- it you're on Table Rock and catch and keep 4 rainbows, do you have to stop bass fishing? And yes rainbows are caught on the main lake on TR every winter and spring. On the Current or Elevenpoint- same thing. Keep 4 rainbows and have to stop fishing? If you keep 6 bass anyplace in Missouri, do you have to stop fishing? What is the difference!!???!!??
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 10, 2009 Root Admin Posted January 10, 2009 Micheal- you said- In the past when I was working with the MDC and riding with agents they have written many tickets for this. So you saw Mike Abdon write tickets for this. Then why do you now say- It will be interesting to see what Mike says I still think he would write you a ticket maybe not. Now I'm confused.
Members Trout Predator Posted January 10, 2009 Members Posted January 10, 2009 Yup once you catch 4 you have to stop. My first time Fly fishing RR I had caught 4 in about 30 minutes and kept catching and releasing fish. First time I ever heard this rule a game warden was telling me.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 10, 2009 Root Admin Posted January 10, 2009 Trout Parks- yes. It's in the code. You're in the "trout" parks to catch trout.

EXCELLENT POINTS! Must a person possess a trout tag to fish Taneycomo, or only if they are keeping trout? Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 10, 2009 Root Admin Posted January 10, 2009 Above highway 65 bridge, one MUST have a trout stamp to fish- period. Below, have to have it if you want to KEEP trout.
