Good points. You are right... nobody could have been prepared to face that. You're right about not being able to take a 50' cruiser out of the lake for the Winter too... I don't know about you, but it would be hard for me to spend that kind of money on a boat and leave it down there all Winter!!

I bet we are alike in that 50' boats are only in our dreams and they have us on the back fighting a fish of a life time :D .

I heard the Floating Cafe dock at Indian Point went down.

Not sure how many wer lost but it looked like quite a bit of damage. They had a 30 second story about it on KY3 here in Springvegas a couple of nights ago. Hoping to get back on the water this w/e and see for myself. If I do I will take pics and post them.

Anyone heard anything about ramp conditions????? Hoping it will melt off enough today to open the roads and ramps.

County road "H" down to Baxter is clear and mostly dry. Ramps are another thing. If there were banked turns on them they would make a great bobsled run. White stuff on the ground is like iron, you can't move or remove it. About one to two inches of ice topped by three inches of tightly packed sleet. Some melting going on Thursday and Friday but it's going to be a while before you can launch safely without sliding your entire rig into the lake. Today's weather should help a lot but the "steep" ramp at Baxter faces North and doesn't get much sun. The shallow ramp at the end of the road will get better, faster.

I was one of the ice victims at Campbell Point Marina. I have not been down yet (I live in Spfld). The owner is keeping us out until safe. Frankly, I'm not looking forward to seeing the devastation, but it sounds like a total loss for my bass boat. Insurance will come through on the boat but not the fishing gear in the lockers. I started adding that gear up and I was getting sort of sick to my stomach. Hopefully the divers can recover some.

I did a little calculation...at the time that the roof collapsed on my boat there was a ton of ice on the roof for every 10 square foot area.

I have to look on the brightside. I get to go shopping for some new .... well, everything.

Please leave a few in the lake for me until I can get back out there.

Is that a normal thing for an insurance company to not cover the fishing gear or was it not in your boat. I am not very knowledgeable about that kind of stuff, but I am sure like most people that have fishing boats I have thounsands of dollars of fising gear in my boat. May be a question that I need to ask my insurance guy. Does any one here know anything about that?

I had a bass boat stolen several years ago. I had a preset amount of contents coverage with my boat policy but not nearly enough to cover what I had onboard. However, the rest was covered under my homeowners policy. My agent couldn't believe I had that much tied up in fishing gear but they paid off. The only drawback was that it was a claim on my homeowners and when I had another wind damage claim to the house a couple years later they wouldn't renew my policy.

Jay bird,

Rods/reels were in the boat...tackle boxes were stored in locker next tothe boat. State Farm policies are quite good as far as the boat, motor and anything boat related. In fact the policy I have will not depreciate the value of my boat (its 12 years old) but the policy does state that no fishing gear is covered (either in or stored next to the boat). In order to have it covered I would have needed to have a separate rider on my homeowners policy. It was just bad luck... I had been fishing about once a week since October and had taken my gear back home each trip. This was the one time I decided to keep things locked up in my locker. (You would think that a meteorologist would know better) The debris/ice is still making the area inaccessible, but the dock owner believes that the locker is at the bottom of the lake. The dock owner says that he will be sending divers down so perhaps I will be able to salvage some.

Oh another funny thing...the policy would have covered ski equipment but not fishing stuff....go figure?

I would double check your homeowners... don't assume it's not covered.

You'd be surprised what's covered in a homeowners policy. We've had clients who rent boats here damage props and lower units and every time it's covered on their policy, if they have one. I'd think fishing tackle would be covered even though it's on in the boat on in your house. It's your property, it should be without a rider unless there's a stipulation in your policy that it is not.

Thanks...yes, I will keep hounding my agent once I know what I've really lost. Thanks for your advice. What is truly lost is all a mystery thus far. Of course this 50 degree day is killing me. I should using that boat today!!

Insurance often covers things that are normally stored in the house. You can leave them in the boat, but they are still an item that would be stored in the house. I don't know what your policy says, but I would fine out.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
