ozark trout fisher Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I knew that is what you meant.... agent error and ethic issues are small potatoes though. Dablemont has clearly accused the MDC upper level of corruption and cover-ups'....and that is where I was going with that. If someone openly and publicly accused me, or my business of something that was ludicris and totally untrue.....I would openly and personally respond. Why are they not saying anything to show that they care about what a group of citizen/taxpayers/sportsmen are being led to think ? The lack of comment doesn't look good right now, but maybe a lawsuit is pending. I bet the MDC doesn't respond to these accusations because they are clearly not worth responding to. No evidence whatsoever, as far as I can tell. If I was the MDC, I probably wouldn't bother to publicly respond to someone accusing me with no evidence. It wouldn't be worth the time of day.

I would say your are right on with that trout fisher. They have more to do than worry about someone scrutinizing them in public. Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Thom Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I think the term is "I won't dignify that with a response". I have traveled and fished throughout the USA and would classify Missouri as the best bargain for residents and non residents anywhere. Most states in these hard times have closed faciilties, parks and services. Missouri on the contrary continues to add and enhance the great fishilng and hunting opportunities that are here. Other states charge a fee just to enter theirs parks and fishing areas and do not maintain them nearly as well as Missouri. Resident and non resident licenses are a bargain. I can't imagine someone who has not fished for years because they got caught breaking the law. What a sportsman?????? What an example for grandkids. I have been asked for liscense and to see live well a few times and found the agents to be nothing but courteous and helpful with the questions I asked or concerns I raised. Of course I was also polite and courteous toward them. Nuff said. Thom Harvengt
Al Agnew Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Not only does MDC probably not respond because it isn't worth it, but...what if they DID respond with some kind of lawsuit or publicity? Then, the MDC critics would charge them with bullying the poor private citizen! And MDC isn't the typical government agency, simply because they don't depend upon the legislature to appropriate funds for them. They have the money, they don't have to spend it or lose it. You cannot equate them to a government agency who DOES have to spend the budgeted money or lose it. Could be that some of that goes on within the different sections of MDC...like maybe fisheries getting so much money and if they don't spend it the next year more goes to forestry or something. As for the grandfathers getting tickets for "helping" their grandkids fishing...well, I can see where that would tick a person off. BUT, in my opinion, both grandfathers in the stories SHOULD have had licenses. If the kid is small enough and inexperienced enough that they were going to need help while fishing, then it's a very short leap to the adult actually fishing in the guise of "helping" the youngster. How many times do you think that excuse has been used illegitimately? I bet every agent has had it pulled on them more than once. So sorry, BRBF, I don't have much sympathy for your grandfather. It appears that one experience has done a whole lot to sour you on MDC...and how many years ago was that? Like others here, I don't like everything MDC does or doesn't do. I'll jump all over them when I think they are wrong. But most of the MDC people I've dealt with have been honest and helpful, and I've dealt with people at all levels from the Director on down at different times in the last 25 years or so. Chief is right. There is such a thing as the whistle-blower law. If these current or retired MDC employees had the goods and really cared about whatever their issues are, they should come forward and get it out in the open.
Greg Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Al - you said that very eloquently and pretty much echo my sentiments about the MDC. MDC is government and as such it's just not ever going to be run like a business or 100% efficiently. But what's the alternative? I don't think there is one. I think we are lucky to have MDC as it stands. Larry Dabblemont - I used to read his columns and always wondered what happened to him. I googled him and found this article: http://deletionpedia.dbatley.com/w/index.p..._2008_at_15:53) Interesting stuff. He's sure led a colorful life. That's all I'm going to say about that. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 28, 2009 Root Admin Posted February 28, 2009 I've never seen http://deletionpedia.com or heard of it... interesting. Why does http://wikipedia.org delete entries, especially 3 days after they're written? He was married to Tonya Harding? Can this be all made up??? Very intriguing....

I've never heard of that either and I also wondered why it was deleted. Some run down wikipedia and I know the info there isn't always 100% accurate - but in general things I've looked up in wikipedia have been very accurate. Greg Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Here's a little more info for anyone interested regarding deletionpedia: "Deletionpedia is an archive of about 63,416 pages which have been deleted from the English-language Wikipedia. Deletionpedia is not a wiki: you cannot edit the pages uploaded here. An automated bot uploads pages as they are deleted from Wikipedia." AND "Articles preserved by Deletionpedia have been deleted from Wikipedia for a variety of reasons, from "being uninteresting", to (allegedly) "manipulation by political and business interests".[5] Since the site is read-only, it seeks no donations, suggesting instead that supporters donate to mySociety or to the Wikimedia Foundation.[6]" So I would suspect the wiki article on Mr. Dablemont was deleted after 3 days for one of the 2 reasons stated above. Maybe it wasn't accurate - but if not I think it would have been corrected? Maybe the MDC did it because they don't like Mr. Dablemont??? (LOL-just kidding). Even though I've said I think the MDC does a good job overall doesn't mean they are above criticism. People like Larry Dablemont that are highly critical of the MDC can obviously serve a purpose if they can back up their criticism with facts and not just innuendo. Thom - I had to smile when I read your comments about having a BS degree. I agree wholehearteddly. I've managed people for years. Both with and without a degree and can honestly say it makes no difference in the person's intelligence or competence at their job.
