I don't have any gps stuff...have seen them used and they are neat...put you right back on the nats a$$ and that's worth alot.

There's an pond down pretty deep on the Pomme arm of Truman in open water...it's darn hard to mark and usually holds fish. With a gps You can find it easily, they do work well.

I couldn't agree more with ya whackem...sound reasoning...

Well said brownieman. You are correct.

Actually, learning to use your electronics to your advantage can be alot of fun and very satisfying in itself. If you can afford some new electronics, you should give them a try. You will see what we're talking about.

Believe me, I understand where you're coming from. When it comes to technology, I am usually one of the last ones to buy into it. When the internet came along I said "Why do I need the internet... I don't get it." Now, I couldn't live without it. My dad is even worse. You should have seen the look on his face when I told him I was getting a GPS unit for his boat! Now, when we fish together, we use it to our advantage and he is always saying it is one of the best things we've ever bought.

"A-Rig? Thanks, but no thanks. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)

I think fishfinders made some difference as far as "going fishing" and "catching fish". There still not half as valuable as a lake map. You can find fish and still not catch anything without the right lure and presentation. Fishfinders are great tools, but if you can't read one right you do more casting than catching.

In small lakes and big ponds we used to mark 1 crappie with fish line and a ballon and follow it around to keep track of the school.

Sure some on here have tried it...maybe not, it was alot of fun.

I have a color Lowrance with gps in my boat. I love it. Especially when you are hunting for walleye (here today, gone tomorrow). Having said that I have caught alot of walleye that did not show up on the sonar. Also, these tools help only when you combine them with time on the water and experience.
