drew03cmc Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 I had a tube, but I used it once in a year, so it got sold to fund a rod. Andy
Members crappie crippler Posted March 27, 2009 Author Members Posted March 27, 2009 Fellas, I think the sidearms have been holstered on this one! The first tube I had was purchased from a guy I work with. It had a heavy rubbery canvas cover and I thought it was cool. First trip out the seams were bursting. Maybe I am a lardas* but I say it was dry rot! There are some really cool designs out there, but some of them cost as much as a 10 FT. scamp. Prices are gonna discourage folks from using them unless they get more allowance than I do. Drew, sounds like you made a good trade! You should reconsider and start up again. Think it would be fun to have a float tube tournament somewhere. I have seen a few clubs for tubes but most of them are out west in California. I LOVE THE SMELL OF FRESH GOGGLE EYE IN THE MORNING!

jdmidwest Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Tubes are ok for lakes and ponds, but would be pretty worthless in most streams and rivers in MO. You would be dragging and walking alot. Plus, I would rather be above the snakes instead of down in a tube staring them in the eye. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Members crappie crippler Posted March 27, 2009 Author Members Posted March 27, 2009 JD: I am going to share my Spaghetti Incident story in the short story column. Look for it tomorrow evening. It does involve a snake and is quite humorous looking back on it now. However, at the time I could not see the humor in it! I LOVE THE SMELL OF FRESH GOGGLE EYE IN THE MORNING!
Wheatenheimer Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 As Flysmallie stated, yes I received one for Christmas from my sweetheart a few months ago. I took it out to Springfield Lake in January and quickly realized that I have a hole in the crotch of my waders. When I was a kid, my mother would not let me go swimming until the outside air temperature was above 80. I always thought she was nuts. That day in January made me really appreciate her wisdom. I would love to do a float tube extravaganza sometime with you fellas. And even though a 30 pack won't fit in the backrest, I'm pretty sure plenty of that special coffee creamer will fit in the side pockets! Cheers! Kevin

Kevin The reason your mother wouldn't let you swim unless it was 80 had nothing to do with you being cold. It's a little technical, so I won't go into detail here, but the reason has to do with if the water wasn't a certain temp then that little helmet she made you wear would cause you to sink. I bet we can figure out a way to float a large cooler. We might have to drink a 30 pack while building it but sometimes thats the price you have to pay.

drew03cmc Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 If I get anything similar again, it will be a pontoon. I just wasn't crazy about being submersed when I am a lackluster aquatic athlete. I can swim, but can't tread water to save my @$$. I would like to grab a pontoon this year if possible! Andy
