Members hendernt Posted April 6, 2009 Members Posted April 6, 2009 I had the opportunity to travel to Israel in the late 90's and went fishing in the sea of gallilee. I didnt catch anything but did get a bite from a sea gull on my shallow diving shad rap. If anyone ever gets the opportunity to go to Israel take a fishing pole. Catfish are not fished for there and they get huge. It is fairly common for people to buy stale bread and throw it in the jordan river to feed them, and they come right to the surface to eat it. We saw multiple 20+ lb fish.
Gavin Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Its a religious thing....folks who observe a kosher diet dont consume fish w/o scales.
Terry Beeson Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Correct-a-mundo Gavin.... Leviticus 11:9-12 9 “Of all the marine animals, these are ones you may use for food. You may eat anything from the water if it has both fins and scales, whether taken from salt water or from streams. 10 But you must never eat animals from the sea or from rivers that do not have both fins and scales. They are detestable to you. This applies both to little creatures that live in shallow water and to all creatures that live in deep water. 11 They will always be detestable to you. You must never eat their meat or even touch their dead bodies. 12 Any marine animal that does not have both fins and scales is detestable to you. TIGHT LINES, YA'LL  "There he stands, draped in more equipment than a telephone lineman, trying to outwit an organism with a brain no bigger than a breadcrumb, and getting licked in the process." - Paul O’Neil
taxidermist Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 So thats why they like to eat Israely carp, the ones with partical scales too.
crappiefisherman Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Hendernt maybe you should have fished from the other side of the boat [ [
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 20, 2009 Root Admin Posted April 20, 2009 Was there in '97. Beautiful place! There are fish there called Musht or Peter's fish they fish for and eat in the markets around the lake. We ate some in Tiberius- boney but not bad.
Members hendernt Posted April 23, 2009 Author Members Posted April 23, 2009 lilley Yes it is a beautiful place we ate some St Peters fish as well I agree a little bony but pretty good. I really liked the lox for breakfast though man that was good stuff. Did you get to go to the dead sea lilley? talk about a lot of minerals we went swimming in it and even after a shower we had white minerals caked to our skin crappiefisherman It would have been nice to have a boat, but unfortunately I had to fish from shore (a dock actually) but there were quite a few people fishing along the shore I attached a few pictures of the water and 1 of me floating in about 3" of water @ the dead sea
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 23, 2009 Root Admin Posted April 23, 2009 We did get to the dead sea. There in January, it was cool but not enough time to get in at that stop. Others went in though- pretty cool. I still have a bottle of dead sea water- it has crystals formed in the bottom of the bottle.
