Members Allen R. Posted April 28, 2009 Members Posted April 28, 2009 How's the Pomme river looking right now? I was thinking about taking my wife down to Pomme to spend an afternoon on hanging out on the river and anjoying some scenery. The last time I went down the river, I went past the bridge and the water was crystal clear. I was also curious if there is smallmouth down that river and if so, how far down do you need to go. Thanks.
Members Allen R. Posted April 28, 2009 Author Members Posted April 28, 2009 I'm speaking about the river that actually flows into the lake (sorry, dunno if that is "above" or "below" the dam), so the river that's south of the lake, haha. Thanks.
Members Allen R. Posted April 29, 2009 Author Members Posted April 29, 2009 Well, I guess I'll answer my own question since nobody else was able to. My wife and I drove down to Pomme this morning from KC to enjoy a day on the water. We went way down the Pomme river and the lake appeared to be a couple feet high. We went probably a couple miles past the bridge (don't know the name of it). The water was very muddy with a lot of current. I've heard there are smallmouth on that river. I'm wondering how far down you have to go to get to where some smallmouth live and if it's possible without a jon boat. We had a nice time, wish it was warmer though. I fished for a little while in one of the creeks on the main lake for about 20 mins, and caught a load of largemouths, so that was a nice ending to the day. The water temp was mid 60's and it seemed like the fish had finished spawning.
mrgungho Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 to answer your question yes there are indeed plenty of smallmouth all throughout the river and lake. I have the best luck in the river with a tube jig with a 1/2 oz weedless head. throw it and let it sink then slowly pick it up off the bottom then let it sink again. reel in the slack and repeat. fish em anyway you can really. I have had luck from a small boat or just hiking down the bank fishing the deep holes in the bends or any bluffs you run across...
