I gotta say - It's been tough for a wader at Taney this spring. When you get up in the morning, press #2 speedial on your phone, and hear "the number of units generating at Table Rock... is 4. Sorry sucker... bet you wish you had a boat..." it can be a little frustrating on the day off. Compound it with a sunny no-cloud-in-sky day, and you have a recipe for being burned all the way around. However, yesterday I had a blast at outlet 2. Didnt fish terribly long, but picked up 21 and 17 inch rainbows, and an 18 inch brown. (as well as others) I think the brown trout is one of the prettiest fish there is - this one was 'one mean motor scooter' too. All on #12 brown scuds. Sure did need a good day of fishing.

I find it crazy that for a lot of fishermen, an 18 inch brown or 21 inch rainbow is a fish of a lifetime - but they're common at Taneycomo.

Lastly - I find it amazing that fishermen will toss their cigarette butts into the water when they're done. Saw a fisherman do it yesterday. It swept downstream too quickly for me to slosh over to him, and pick it up right in front of him. I don't mind the lung cancer from y'all smokers second hand smoke as much as I mind you throwing your cigarette butt carelessly into the water when your done with your [articular form of self abuse. He was a nice fellow and all, but please everyone - this isn't Roaring River, where you expect trash to accumulate on the bank (that hacks me off as well, but what can you do? The trout parks are a lost cause for fighting trash, but I wish there was some way to ask people "HOW DO YOU NOT SEE THE TRASHCAN RIGHT BEHIND YOU???!!!

Sorry - had to get that out of my system. MDC gives us trashcans, and changes the bags for us. PLEASE use them!

But anyways, a georgous trout-filled day at taney.

Glad you had a great day. So what's the problem with 4 units? ;)

The cigarette butts drive me crazy too FG. I see it all the time. I think the butts break down in a year or so but still.......no excuse.

Glad you had a good day. The high water is driving me crazy too. Can catch fish but just not as fun. Looks like we are stuck with the high water for a while though.

Of all the bits of debris that floats..... leaf, stick, fish guts, busted orange strike indicators, ect. It's those butts that upset us the worst. Classic example of media mass brain programming.

Not that it doesn't bother ME, just interesting when you think about it.

Good point FW. Of all the things that float down any stream I am more worried and concerned about plastic water bottles, beer cans, plastic worm bags and any sundry items that take eons to disintegrate. I would say a cigarette butt and its remains are gone long before the other items I mentioned. Now that is not to say it should happen, and people should be better stewards of the rivers and lakes by putting their trash in the proper place. There are plenty of pockets on a fishing vest to store your garbage.

I don't like it, and it wasn't brainwashing that got me there.

For some reason, many smokers feel like that little bit of trash is under the limit, and it's ok to drop them where ever you are when you finish your smoke. Twist off that filter and stick it in your pocket. I'm with Fly_Guy on this one.

If you ever want to know what happens to my cigarette butts, ask my wife.. I have RUINED more washing machines with a clot of 15 cigarette butts than you can begin to imagine... I just can't ever seem to remember to take them out of my pocket.. But yes, I will go swimming for a piece of trash, and it doesn't take that much time and effort to put your trash (butts, bottles, and otherwise) in a pocket until you make it back to the truck..

But back to the fishing part of the topic.. What is a #12 scud? (My intent with this question is to slightly change the subject... LOL)

Cricket, A #12 scud is fly fishin talk for a fly imitating a fresh water shrimp, tied on a size #12 hook. Taney is FULL of scuds. As are most all trout waters here in Mo.

Example, ya know the spillway at Bennett dividing zone 1 & 2? Just grab a hunk of that moss in your hand and check out all the scuds wiggling around. Think of all the bugs falling loose into the pool below. Try dead drifting scuds there...if ya match the size/color the fish want...bingo. Add a fly rod to your arsenal.

A scud on Taney is like Kirby VanBirch in Branson, always seems to do the trick. Scuds are my go-to - small (down to #22) when water is low, and large (up to #12) when water is high. Brown or Gray - match the hatch. And I agree with the other posts - the plastic trash is just as bad if not worse. Smoking a cigarette and throwing down the butt is no different than opening a package of plastic worms and throwing out the wrapper, or drinking a coke/beer and throwing the can. All of these things peeve me. That's like a trout attacking a clump of moss with scuds in it, and tossing the moss into your living room. Except it's completely absurd. We'd be like.."trout - what are you doing dude?" and he'd be like "I'm a trout - do I have to have a reason?" and we'd be like "......well....guess not.....".

I need to go find a good use of my time right about now... :)

I have! Wrench was kind enough to part with a real nice 9 footer (he's taking payments, LOL), and even invited me up to teach me how to use it! (he did a good job too!)

And a really nice gentleman here on the forum has offered to give me an older rig of his, I just have to hoof up there to get it.. This forum has been very hospitable to me, and I appreciate it very much.

You guys do know I am one of those hooligan car salesmen, right? LOL
