Members Fat Boy Posted May 17, 2009 Members Posted May 17, 2009 Has any one noticed the ramp problems at lake? I have used the Mill Crk ramp 3 times this yr for tourneys and use the Cape Fair ramps wkly, the ramps and the parking lots are in bad shape, CF both ramps in the park have huge holes in and around the ramps , if the water is up you can not see these holes and people back into them, Mill CRK same way and the parking sucks. We give them $35 a yr for a pass is anyone else tired of this ? What can we do if anything is any of the other Corp ramps like this or just these two.?
denjac Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Its just that there was so much damage from last years flooding. They have filled the holes in at the Mill creek ramp with chat. Guess they have priorities over what gets fixed first. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. techo Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Mill Creek is getting pretty beat up. It gets a great deal of use to. I don't think they make enough money off me to fix it. Aunt's Creek is a sweet ramp and I like Cape Fair too. Tim Carpenter

I, as well as all of the guys in our Mill Creek Night Tourney Series, am very tired of it. The Mill Creek ramp and parking is pathetic... the dumb thing is that they have put gravel all over the ramp and parking lot and guys are sliding and spinning their tires badly trying to launch and take out. It is a major pain. The campground there is still nowhere close to being fixed and usable either. They have had way more than enough time to fix everything and have been sitting on their thumbs. Members Fat Boy Posted May 19, 2009 Author Members Posted May 19, 2009 I guess I could understand them fixing the big stuff 1st. but at the CF park there rebuilding camp sites that was not flooded, and there Hydro Seeding grass where grass won't grow. My guess they get our money every yr. and thats all there is to that. For you guys comeing to CF watch out for the big holes around both ramps and at Mill Crk have fun throwing chat all over your boat when you pull it out.

I watched two Bobcats spread about 25 loads of topsoil around various Baxter campsites three weeks ago just before a big rain. That mud sat there, running into the lake every time it rained, for two weeks, untouched. Then on the morning of the 8th when the Ozark Frog Strangler hit, I had just made it into the dock and was locking up the boat when the heavens opened up trapping me on the dock. I looked across the water to the Baxter campground to see they had "hydroseeded" ( or whatever they call that green goop they shoot out of a truck onto new ground ) the night before and got to sit there and watch the mud, the seed and the green goop wash across the launch ramp parking lot and into the lake. Whatever moron at the COE planned this should be fired on the spot. Then, after all that expensive dirt and seed getting washed into the lake, a buddy from this board comes down and camps and tells me his party had to spend two hours cleaning up the trash and debris around their two campsites !! I guess they just covered the pre-existing trash at the other sites with their eroding mud.

Well, the good news about the new dirt they brought into the Mill Creek facilities is that they haven't spread it out thin to be washed away... it is still in big piles (has been for about 2 or 3 months now) and only gets washed away slowly. The bad news is that the dirt piles are totally covered with weeds now, since they have sat there so long while the Corp workers pick their noses. They have, however, just built a brand new fancy shower building (I thought the old one was still pretty nice--but maybe it got flooded and ruined) for all of the campers to use... wait-- there won't be any campers (it doesn't appear) this year unless they get to work on the rest of the campgrounds sometime soon. Oh-- I will throw in one more thing. Corp representatives have told our Tourney Director that they will be repaving the ramp/parking lot "SOON"... they have been telling him "SOON" for several months now. They promised him they would have it done well before our tourney schedule started (April 17)-- Well, they obviously still haven't done it... but instead they (being geniuses) decided to spread gravel all over the ramp so we could slide around and throw it all over our boats. I almost forgot about the light at the top of the parking lot that hasn't worked since late last Summer. Of course, I'm used to that not being in working order-- they generally can't ever keep it working for more than about a month at a time. It usually works for about a month and then is off for about a month before they decide to fix it-- my guess is that it will be off all Summer this year before they decide to get around to fixing it. I think I will stop there before I get upset about it and start calling them names.
