Seth Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 What are the best places to find these things. I have snagged a few on the osage river while paddlefish snagging, but never got into a mess of them. A lady I work with showed me pictures of her husband with about 20 of them he snagged last weekend on the Missouri River. She said that he was around Hermann/New Haven. Are the behind every wing dike on the Missouri or what? THese things are such a blast to catch, and around here the paddlefish are small anyways so I would rather catch me some bigheads.
MoCarp Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 closest place I have heard is the Arkansas river, but I have not seen them in the "plague" numbers here yet like that I see in the news as a note these fish are NOT RELATED to the common carp that have been here for over 100 years--the bighead and silver "carp" have a body that looks almost king salmon like and a head with very low set eyes--the fish are filter feeders--it is said they are some of the best eating of fish and are grown for the table by the ton in the far east Mo MONKEYS? what monkeys?
shawncat Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Yea, if they jump like on the news you may need a tennis racket instead of a net for protection !!!
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Thanks MoCarp, I was about ask the question regarding their genetic link to the Asian and leatherbacks I'm familiar with. Whats the bone structure like? Common carp aren't bad if you can get pass the bones. They best method of control might well be via the dinner table. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
