We refer to those oversized boats on TR as " Battleships in a Bathtub" !:lol::P

Either the owners are playing the same game they play at Lake of the Ozarks which is "out-do your neighbor" or they need those things to feel secure on the water. COE needs to establish boat length limits or TR will turn into another Lake of the Ozarks.

You should see what those huge wakes do to our boat docks. If a guy went to where those people live and abuse their garage or carport like they do the docks, he'd go to jail. Doesn't seem right. grrrr

Those big boats dont go real fast, but they do throw a huge wake and are a real threat to capsize small boats.

I dont know if there will ever be a limit on size, cant see that happening. And I dont really know of a way to reduce their wake... short of just putting around at 5mph. I guess its something we all have to live with, so the best you can do is learn how your boat handles the big waves and be prepared, or just outrun them and duck in a cove so you dont have to deal with it.

I dont mean to sound like safety sam here, but earlier this year I was fishing over on Beaver lake on a guided striper trip and there was an accident where the local sheriff was searching for a missing man after two boats collided. I believe they never found his body. But I guess my point is... It dont hurt to actualy wear that life jacket, In my boat they are handy and readily accessible, but in an accident you would never have the time to get one put on. I think that will change.

Reminds me of the same situation on a thread i ran here last year. Those pillars at the bridges can also be a death trap. Were just another Lake of the Ozarks. I am sticking to the upper james river arm this weekend.

Good Luck on the waters this weekend. Stay safe.

Reminds me of why I like K Dock. Lots of times I don't catch anything, but sometimes I can look a mile up and down the lake and not see another boat. No heavy cruisers there, for sure.

Martin,

Talked with Jamie Bryant, from Bryant Outdoors in Laurie, over the weekend. His folks live on mile marker 40(?) at LOZ. Last w/e a group of 30 - 40 cruisers and ciggarettes decided to run in a pack for about 35 mile and turn around and come back. There were damaged docks up and down the lake, his folks have a 32' Sea Ray that wound up on it's side on the lift, with the lift half sunk. They called the water patrol to file a report and were told by the officer that there were over 50 reports filed and they expect three times as many by the time the folks came down for vaction. It's just ridiculous.

We're not there yet but it's getting close.

I'm sure not a legal-beagle but aren't boat owners responsible for damage their boat wakes cause ?

I know a local resort owner who went after a group that has multiple boats and used to water ski right in front of his dock which tore it up pretty bad. He did receive some compensation for the damage their daily activities caused.

Focused Fishing, I can't hardly imagine how big of a wake it would take to turn a 32 foot Sea Ray on it's side !! Man o man.

I have a hard time discovering what the pleasure is in such large craft. I can understand jet skis, towing the tubes and skiing, but not the huge boats. I doubt if anything will ever be done, because we all complain, but not sure how to fix it.

On a more positive noted.....Eric, I saw your photo at Just For Him, they spoke very highly of you. You are obviously a good ambassador for the fishing lifestyle. Many thanks.

A length limit is appealing but requires daily enforcement. If the corps prohibits slips longer than 26? 28? feet, we won't have a real problem. Boats the size we are talking are a pain to trailer. If they can't stow them permanently on the lake, they will go elsewhere. Write the corps.
