laker67 Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 I really like powerpro, I use 10,30,50 and 80 lb Holy crap!! How big "are" the smallmouth in your part of the country? I would think that you could tow a Toyota far enough to jump start it with 80 lb test.

I've never targeted smallmouth, but have caught em on the 10 and 30 lb test.
ollie Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Don't go any less than #8 in my judgement. Have had too many heartbreaks with smaller diameter. I thought, "oh yea, it's a clear stream and I have to fish it with 4-6 lb. line to make a difference", but ya know what, it DOESN'T make a difference. I have caught some nice smallies this year in clear water already on P-line CX premium. With the slicks I will use #4. Oh yea, note to self, neighbor lost a pig smallie yesterday due to lower test line and not re-spooling enough. Could have been the re-spooling, but not too sure. I just know I have lost some nice fish myself for going under gunned on a steam. ohmz138 Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Whatever brand it is, I would just use 6-10 lb flourocarbon. I usually have a spinning rod with 6 one with eight and a baitcaster with 10 or even 12.
TroutRinger Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 Thanks everyone...I ended up going with 6lb Vanish and have already used it w/o any complaints. I didn't see any need to go higher and if I was going to use 4lb line I might as well use my trout stuff which I still might end up doing because it is just so much fun. That reminds me, I need to go trout fishing. "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." "There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot."
