So I finally decided it was time to buy myself a present, a new kayak. I had done exhaustive research on the subject and decided on the Mad River Synergy 12. What an awesome fishing kayak, so far so good. I have taken to Springfield lake a couple of times and also to Lake of the Ozarks. I can take all of the stuff i want and not be overloaded. I have some final rigging to do but for the most part it is perfect. I drove down to Ozark Mountain Trading Co. in Garfield, Ar to purchase it. I am glad that I made the drive, what a nice buying experience. The shops around spfd were not as helpful as I would have liked for dropping that kind of dough. I also saved some money and had a nice drive. I will try to post picks when I get it rigged out.

The guys at Ozark Mtn Trading Co. are top notch. If anyone asks me about buying a canoe or kayak, I send them to Garfield.

Mad River Synergy is the one I looked awful hard at. It is a great setup, light enough for one person to be able to maneuver off water, and long enough to lake use. Also, Mad River makes some killer accesories to outfit the boat. I look forward to seeing the pics. Congratulations.

Great boat- I had a Synergy 12 (tan) for a while- it was a nice purchase, I bought the full spray skirt for it since I used it on rivers only. It was a little heavy to load on my H3, but after a little parctice, got easier.

Only thing I didn't like was once you get wet, you stay wet with no scuppers- buy you a sponge and use it to bail water if needed.

Enjoy!

I googled it and that's a really interesting boat. With the big open cockpit it's kind of a fusion of a SOT and SINK isn't it? Looks like it would work very well for fishing although it's just a bit heavier than I would like personally. I'm going to buy one in the next year (or a solo canoe) and I've this one to my list to look at. Thanks for the heads up.

Wow, thats enough stuff on that yak for an overnighter! That will be a bugger to portage by yourself IMO. Then again I am a minialist when on the water fishing.
