Martin Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Finally caught a couple of keeper walleyes in the lower lake this morning. A 22 incher and a 22 1/2 incher. All the fish showing on the sonar were at 28 feet and deeper, but all I could catch out there was giant bluegills and a couple of whites and short Kentucky's. I got washed into shallower water by the cruiser waves and whacked the first eye in about 24 feet of water. The second one was in 22 to 23 feet of water. Somebody opened the corral at 11:30 and I came in due to the heavy traffic. Oh yeah, I was using a crawler harness with a spinner behind a big chunk of lead. (Bottom Bouncer). Attempting to go about .9 mph to maybe 1.1 mph. I felt like I was riding a mechanical bull when the traffic got heavy. lol..... The fish are alot prettier then me. I need to remember never to be in the photo's. lol......
rangerman Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Thats my boy, I knew you'd get them sooner or later down there. Good table rock fish, small heads big bodies. Did they have anything in 'em? I am impressed, I thought you didn't like BB and spinner rigs. Glad you didn't lose these fish you'd probably never fish one again.
stone9-7=2 Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Way to go Martin... Those are some fine looking TR Wallys. Congrats...
Quillback Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Nice wallies from a lake where they don't come easy.
Martin Posted August 16, 2009 Author Posted August 16, 2009 Thank you. Rangerman, no, they didn't have anything in them, kind of like those Bull Shoals walleyes from 2 weeks ago. Their heads and bodies were actually pretty normal. Somehow the camera angle makes them look different. I'm going out this morning to see if lightning can strike twice. lol.
powerdive Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I was on Stockton yesterday, trolling walleyes in 20-23 feet. Was catching an occasional short here and there. Something distracted me and I got pushed thru some 12 foot water, cranks digging bottom, and I hooked a heavy fish. Or so I thought. Turned out to be another short walleye, foul hooked underneath. Hmmm. So I started trolling shallower, mostly at 14-16 feet. There was a much bigger "show" on sonar in the shallower water. Ended up with a 22, and another 20+ lost at the net, and a buncha shorts plus assorted other species. It was an accident. I had pre-decided that the fish would be deeper. I've gotta stop that, and learn to listen to what the fish are saying.....

I spent 5 hrs Fri. night and 6 hrs Saturday morning fishing the magical 20-24' off the flats by Mutton Creek and ended up with those occasional shorts you mentioned. Those Stockton walleye sure do frustrate me.
