I know what what you mean 405z06. I've noticed more people on the river during the week (regardless of the river) than I have in years. Big whup. One deals with it. Right now , Eric. I like Riverview to Hwy 19 ( about 5 1/2 miles), Hwy 19 to Garrison's ( about 5), Campbell Bridge to Blue Springs Ranch ( about 4 ). Any section, really, between Indian Springs and Blue Springs, has good fishing with good gravel bars for camping. There'll be people, but not too many, and most won't be fishing. Honestly Eric 1978, wherever and whenever you decide, that's your choice, so, believe in it. There is no RIGHT or WRONG in your location decision. You're going fishing and camping, it's all good.

Decide how much water you want to cover in two days, and then look for accesses that fit that amount. If you have your own watercraft and you're doing your own shuttle, you can pretty much avoid the idiots except for those in jetboats by simply putting in out of synch with the rental crowd. For instance, if you want to cover a lot of water, Birds Nest to Onondaga is a good two day float. If you put in at Bird's Nest at daylight, you'll be two or three hours ahead of any of the canoes that Garrison's puts in there. It's five miles from there to Garrison's, so you should be hitting Garrison's about mid-day, still well ahead of the canoes they put in above, but behind those that they put at their place to go on down. Cover enough water to camp about 5 miles below Garrisons, which will put you close to Ozark Outdoors' put-in at The Bluffs. Get an early start the next morning and you'll be well ahead of the canoes that put in at The Bluffs. You shouldn't hit a lot of idiots until you get to the mouth of the Huzzah. From then on you'll be in with whatever canoes Ozark Outdoors puts in up on Courtois Creek, but you should have at least half the day idiot free except for jetboats, which don't travel the river on schedules like the rental canoes.

If you want a shorter float, you could put in at daybreak at Onondaga, float just past Campbell Bridge, about 5 miles, and the idiots won't be catching up to you until late in the day. Then get an early start the next morning for Blue Springs Creek, and the canoes that put in at Campbell bridge won't be getting to you until late. Or you could do the early put-in, fish until the idiots start to catch up, sit on a gravel bar and watch them pass for couple of hours (this works better in the summer when the bikini hatch is out), and then finish the day's float behind most of them.

You know... I probably shouldn't post this, but, was floating the Big Piney years back. Came across a "SPEEDO HATCH". Bunch of...... uh........ guys? Maybe I mispelled that. Standing in a big circle hitting a beach ball around, and having fun doing it. Once I got past 'em and emptied the contents of my gut, I realized I should've paddled back upstream of them and did the same! :redcard:

Scarred me for life...

Yeah. That can happen on Ozark streams from time to time.

I saw a similar, but much worse sight while wade fishing Little Piney Creek. But I won't get into that here.

I will say it thoroughly ruined my day.

Thanks Al, for the great pointers. Chances are we'll do exactly one of the two floats you described, especially if it's going to be a little cooler that weekend and I feel like the population will be low.

Concerning the SPEEDO HATCH. The wife and I took a vacation to Boston this summer and one of the days we took a ferry to Provincetown, Cape Cod because we wanted to take a whale watching cruise. Well, I don't know if you guys know about Provincetown (we didn't), but I can tell you it was a SPEEDO PLAGUE and we spotted a lot more balls than just the beach kind. They were all very friendly and accommodating, but I felt like we had landed on another planet. The whale watching was INCREDIBLE, though. I was on the back of the boat looking over the rail and a humpback surfaced and basically soaked me with its spout. Unbelievable.

Note: I hear that Massachusettes has some very good smallmouth fishing, but since my wife's idea of a float trip is reading Huckleberry Finn for the hundredth time, it was out. Too bad.

Hey Al, I was wondering if you knew what was going on over there at riversmallies.com. I signed up earlier today but still can't access any of the forums. You think the administrators are asleep at the switch or is there a reason my membership can't be approved? Just asking because I saw you were messing around over there a few minutes ago.

In response to the questions about why the "DCIs" will be on the river after school starts back up, the first few weeks are a cake walk and it is pretty fun to take one of those weekends after everybody gets back, plus it's easier to track down a bigger group because they're all in one place and there are less excuses for not going. Of course, if the temps don't jump back up you probably won't have to worry about it.

Cute animals taste better.

I don't know what the problem could be...I'm supposed to be one of the staff members but I know very little about the actual running of the site. I'll contact the other staff members and see if I can find anything out.

When they made the change to the site I tried to get on and had lost my password. I went through the password reset process and waited patiently for the reset email. After about a week I gave up and re-signed up. It took several days to get the new membership approved, but it did eventually happen. Just be patient and it will happen. Hopefully Al can get you going a little sooner.

Still haven't seen an email on resetting my password for the old account.
