When it comes to the rivers at least I feel I am an 'Educated Idiot", lol.

Many years ago I had 3 buddies swimming at Cedar Grove put in the hospital by some 'idiots...they had words with a couple of canoes telling them to get out of their way...they thought, not too bad odds...3 of us, 4 of them so they promptly told the flatlanders where they could go, about that time the rest of the fraternity came around the bend of the river...one of my buddies ran (the smart one) and the other 2 ended up with their heads split open from boat paddles.

Park rangers were waiting for them at Akers Ferry, guess they got in trouble but probably not near enouph.

So there is one of my 'Drunken Idiot stories'...one of many unfortunately.

That's why you take a gun. I'm not talking about shooting anyone, but just a show that you have one. That would probably do the trick. I've never had to test my theory, but I'll keep that option open just in case. Drunk punks are dangerous to themselves and everyone around them.

I get it, and I agree. Thought maybe you were talking about me and my jet boat. I don't do the Meramac much above Pacific, or the Gasconade very far up. I leave the "skinny" water to the floaters. I always try to check a rapids for floaters coming down stream so I can let them pass before I go up. Other than one big event on the Gasconade, when I'm on the river it is to fish same as you.

I wasn't talking about you or any jet boaters in general. I don't have any problem with jet boats! I wish I had one! I just wouldn't use them on small waters, just like you said.

My rambling, moronic post above was only about disrespectful people who litter and cause trouble on your favorite streams. That's it. They just happen to mostly be young guys. Hey, I was young once, too, (still am, kinda) and had my share of fun hootin' and hollerin' on float trips. But I never threw my garbage in the river and I never caused trouble with other floaters. They have a right to be there just like everyone else, but they don't have the right to ruin it for other people.

You are right smallie...years ago when I ran the river alot in my old long jon I had a few run in with folks.

They cussed me for having a motor on the river and I was more than considerate.

Half of em couldn't even steer a canoe and would ram my boat no matter how far to the side I got...then cuss me for being there...go figure. I bought a pistol and started hanging it right up in clear site on the front seat of the boat...it did indeed cut down on how many smart a$$ remarks I received...although I gotta admit, many times I just felt like welding 2 or 3 pitchforks to the front of my boat and just lettin er rip, lol.

Quite comical really to see how some couples act when they start a float trip and how they grow to despise each other before the trip is over. I've seen some pretty wild stuff happen on a few gravel bars in my time, lol.

I gotta laugh but it really is pathetic to say the least.

Nope, I doubt if it was you... Most of the incidents I'm speaking of occurred on the river up above Meramec State Park.

Again, nothing against jetboaters... It's a fine way to fish, just not my cup of tea.
