tippet7 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I checked the MDC website and couldnt find the dove season forecast for this season. Anyone going on tuesday? I will go, but it will be the evening hunt, going to wait until my boy is out of school. then we will drive up to the fields for the evening shoot. Anyone know if the fields over by Bull Shoals consevation area are any good this year? You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 27, 2009 Root Admin Posted August 27, 2009 My friends in SE Kansas don't know what the doves will do. Lots of them there but the cool weather may push them south by Tuesday. MDC is probably thinking the same, not wanting to guess what it will be like. But seems there are alot of doves to shoot. Never hunted down here. Would be nice not to drive 3 hours. But the doves in SE Kansas are thick usually.
Bird Watcher Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 The birds I have been keeping tabs on doubled or tripled in strength during the last cold snap. I am a little nervous about the cool weather this weekend though. it is just going to be a question of how many show up vs. how many leave. They are definitely migrating right now. I uncased the gun last night. The fall hunt is about to begin! Tell the fish I will see them next February.
zander Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 My father and I are going Tuesday morning. First time that we have hunted together since 92 I think. I am not worried about the numbers, I am worried about losing birds after they drop. Next year my dog should be good enough to trust getting them but he's so young now all I'd have left from the birds would be a few feathers stuck to his lips after he finished it off. You guys use a full choke or improved up here for dove?
Bird Watcher Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Zander, I shoot a mod. for almost everything. The only time I might switch to imp. is on close ducks and geese. Steel patterns tighter than lead so sometimes you really need to open it up when you are shooting birds in your face in order to keep from damaging them too much.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I'm going!!! Thousands here in St. Charles County. The river bottoms are thick with them this year. SIO3

snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 My buddy scouted our sunflower fields yesterday and saw no birds at all. We're still expecting a good hunt though. SIO3
