motoman Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I know at some of the other ozark lakes, the white bass have been breaking the surface ans really schooling up. Just curious if anyone who's been out in a while seen them breaking the surface? How about at night? - I was going to try and shoot down in a week or 2, and was curious if there's been any activity. Thanks in Advance!
fishinwrench Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Quite a bit of activity on the mid-upper Osage, not too much action on the "surface" but they are slammin' Rebel fastracks and Rattle-traps around the long points and islands....when they are up on them. Heavy overcast days, or late evenings are obviously best.

We fish at night a nyway, so as soon as that sun starts to dip, things come to life. Looks like it'll be worth a run down in a week or 2? - I appreciate the quick reply. It's a shame more people don't post over here, considering the amount of people that fish LOZ. Maybe they should follow our example on the Table Rock side of the site?
Members Zach Beach Posted September 4, 2009 Members Posted September 4, 2009 I was down there last weekend (Sept. 1) and didn't see any activity on the surface. I sure did catch the heck out of the blue cats drifting across a shallow flat on the main lake. I sure was looking for the whites to start busting the water after those shad. Heading down again this weekend. Might try the rattle traps on the main points like fishinwrench suggested. Will let you know how I did.

That always seems to be the ticket for Hybrids.

Members Zach Beach Posted September 8, 2009 Members Posted September 8, 2009 Tried the main lake points with a rattle trap and crankbaits. Didn't have any luck finding the whites. We did see big balls of shad in about 5 to 6 feet of water with fish underneath them on the fish finder. This was off the main lake points in about 25 feet of water. I couldn't find what they were bitting on. Does anybody have some suggestions on what to throw at them? I did have some luck with the crappie though. A bone white 1/16th ounce jig in about 15 to 20 feet of water. Saturday I did some drift fishing for catfish on a main lake flat again. Did really well again. I was only out there for about 2 hours and caught 25. They were around one to two pounds. Too many boats after the sun came out.
shaker Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I don't fish the LOZ but on Truman I've had pretty good luck with large swimming minnows on 1/4 oz jigs and 3 to 4 inch swim baits rigged on 1/4,3/8 and 1/2 oz jig heads. Favorite colors are a yellow chartreuse head with a white body, sometimes dip the tail in chartreuse dye, on dark days all chartreuse is hard to beat.
motoman Posted September 9, 2009 Author Posted September 9, 2009 Good info guys! - Hey Zach, out of curiosity, what hours were you fishing?
Members Zach Beach Posted September 10, 2009 Members Posted September 10, 2009 I was catching the catfish around 1 to 3, and the rest of the time we were out there around 8 am. til we got tired.
