Members James Robertson Posted September 19, 2009 Members Posted September 19, 2009 Hey Sam I'm Glad that like to the You Tube video helped. I have not got to try the split shot hook yet myself. I did just get back from the bait shop and bought some. That might be a small help with the Clients Bill, don't know. James
Guest csfishinfool Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Hey Guys, I don't normally chime in here on the Trock threads but if you are fishing Fluoro and not tying the Eugene Bend not you are in trouble. This is the ONLY not that will not break by cutting into itself on a hard or pull hook set. U HAVE TO USE THE EUGENE BEND KNOT with Fluoro~ I fish flouro 100% of the time on my jig rods, I use a Palomar knot. Be sure to wet the knot, sinch it down snug, dont over do it. Be gentle when you pull it all together. If flouro heats up it will screw the whole thing up. I went to the best source for jig fishing, and ask Deon Hibdon when I seen him at B-Pro. I broke off a bit so I asked. After I was carefull sinching it down I haven't had a problem yet. So really you dont HAVE to use old Eugene.

Not trying to be confrontational here just informative, If you are using the palomar knot with Fluoro it IS going to BREAK. I don't care how wet you get it or how gingerly you slide it down. It is the wrong knot for Fluoro. I use the palomar knot for almost every other instance and it's an incredible knot for mono, just not fluorocarbon. Cody S. Different "tools" should be used for different jobs or applications. Palomar knots have been the best known common knot for fouro for some time. EVERY knot will fail if not tied correctly well before the rated line weight. The most common mistake anglers make is to blame the knot when using flouro when if they inspect the line end they will find nicks and abrasion above the knot are the often issue. ALL knots will break at loads, all knots will break if tied incorrectly, no ONE knot does the job for ALL applications. Chose the best tool for the job at hand. I use five different knots for 90% of my fishing, pick your's and go fish! J.E.
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I think this link will work Cody. KNOT WARS I don't want anyone to think that there's a big difference in most of these knots, while its true that the Fish-N-Fool bested the others, the devil is in the details. The test were done on comparable, new lines clean of any abrasion. The top lines were all close and well above 90%, if I remember right. The test don't take in to consideration any different characteristics that other brands of lines have. Some braids are slicker than others, some aren't braided but are fused, and most change with age. Some "monos" are hybrids. These differences might also change the outcomes, but probably not by much. My present lines are P-line hybrids and TUF XP braid and these are the lines that the knots need to work well on for me. I'm of the school "If it ain't broke don't fix it", and if the I had never had the Eugene bend break I wouldn't change tying it or recommending it. I don't like the Palomar, but I've used it for years on virtually all my connections, the exception is when I need a loop, the Rapala fills that niche. I would like a dependable knot that can be done without a lot of forethought and that doesn't use up a lot of line. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Whack'emGood Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I have never had a problem with the Palomar Knot, and I fish Fluorocarbon almost exclusively. ' Just my .02. Champ188 Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Just a quick comment on fluorocarbon ... I've had breakoff issues with Seaguar and recently tried both Trilene and P-Line 100% carbon. Loved them both, especially the Trilene.
CMAC Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 I was getting lots of break offs too up here, thought it was my line, knot or "not" holding my jaw right, then I found out we have zebra mussels!!

The Trilene 100% Fluoro is very strong indeed in my experience... sometimes even hard to break off after getting hung up (15lb). Flippin Posted September 25, 2009 Author Posted September 25, 2009 CMAC, How does Zebra Mussels relate to breakoffs?
