Got on the water about 8:30 p.m. and went to our usual spot, of gradual sloping, pea gravel shoreline. Worked it over like we usually do with small, tight wobbling crankbaits (see my previous report a few posts down). After an hour with one small, black bass. We pressed on.

-

Got to our second spot on the main channel, windswept shoreline, with about a 30 degree slope shoreline. Winds were about 10mph, I'd say gusting to 15. (Kinda tricky holding on the main channel) Water came up from 50-40 feet to a small shelf of about 10-15 feet, and we had the boat about 2 cast lengths from shore. Things lit up! Anyone within earshot would've heard us whoopin' it up!

-

There were 3 of us in the boat (one of us a fishing novice, but he did great!). We had countless doubles on at a time. Several hybrids/stripers in the 5-6 pound range. After about 4 hours of fishing, we boated over 60+ fish. Mainly whites, but a couple 3 pound largemouth.

-

I guess the fish were a bit lazy, and didn't want to patrol the gradual sloping pea gravel shorelines. They wanted to hang around the ledge for quicker access to deeper water.

-

One of us just had a slow steady retrieve and was catching nice fish.

-

I was using a faster retrive, with constant hard jerks of the rod. To give the bait an erratic action. That seemd to get the bigger fish to hit. But not as many small ones. Which I'm fine with. ;)

-

My forearm is still sore after working that rod with those constant jerks for 4 hours; but well worth it! :D

-

Cabelas 2" suspending, Rad Shad in the Blue Racer and Flasher were the big winners.

-

(Anyone who doesn't white bass fish is missing out. They fight much harder than those largemouth. It's a great time!)

Awesome! Glad you got into 'em. Don't ya just love those ledges :)

Whites and Hybrids are the funnest fish that swims in this lake....bar none. Good eatin' too.

Those ledges are the best Glen! The whites and hybrids are above and beyond, the funnest fish to catch in the lake. I feel foolish that I never really gave them much thought years back. But, now it's gonna be kinda tough fishing for black bass, dragging soft plastics; and having to feel for the subtle bite. ^_^

-

We couldn't get down to some of the areas we PM'd about. The guys I had with me, wanted to hang out in the Glaize area.

-

But I will say, you were onto something when we PM'd about the speed of the retrieve! Thanks again! :D

Ain't that the truth! I learned to flyfish in a stream full of white bass, THAT was a freakin' blast!

Thanks for the report, wish I had a bigger boat (and a larger vehicle to pull it, lol) so I could utilize your info, sounds like you guys got it figured out....

Wish I had my bass boat down here in Jeff. But, unfortunately, I'm stuck shore fishing. ...Rats, hate missing out on that. Love the white bite. :(

CW, you don't have to miss out. you can wade the points in the lake just like you do the creeks. The points in the dam area of Truman are reasonably easy to access and fish from the bank, as are many good points here on LO once they drop the lake a bit.

White bass on a flyrod. Now THAT would be fun! ;)

Cricket, I'm not sure how big your boat is. But, overnight during the week, there is not a soul on the water. That's when we were out. Its nice and calm. B)

Look me up next Spring and we'll do it.

THIS (funny lookin) fella is the guy I was talking about! Good pic, even with your signature I am proud to call you friend.

Next spring it is....

Motoman: My boat is prolly big enough, but I'm scared to put it in deep water... It's the only one I got! All is not lost, though.. I think I still have friends with boats.. I think.

Holy Moly Glen! I think my head might explode with that kind of action! That would be unreal! Awww man, the thought of fly fishing for whites in the spring. (insert Homer Simposn droooling sound effect) :D

I don't blame yah Cricket. I've got a 20 foot Basscat (old dawg-1986) and we were getting bounced around pretty good on the main channel with that wind. No other boats, just the wind and driven waves, whippin' up on us!

-

I even mentioned to the guys that I was with; when you look out across the main channel (VERY wide part of the lake), it was pitch dark, no moon, wind trying to push us into the rocks; it was a bit unnerving if yah think about it.............So I just didn't think about it. ;)
