Wild or stockers those are some beautiful fish. Nicely done.

That looks like a cross with a brookie. If I'm not mistaken, you can tell by the bigger black spots along the lateral line. I'm not familiar with that river, is there any brookie history there?

There are no Brookies in the Eleven Point. Also, Brookies are technically part of the Char family and rainbows are part of the salmon family so I don't think they could cross breed anyway.

Can you tell someone (me) who knows nothing about trout how you can tell the difference between the wild and hatchery fish?

the best way to tell is look at the fins if l there all there most likely it's wild

stockers have a fin cliped in this river and if one slips past them the only other way to tell is there colors are off untill there spend some time in the river system with a different diet then pellets it would get it natural color back I guess but there tips of there fins are much more white then a stockers will ever be note the picture I'm pointing to the white fins it's hard to see the top fin in the photo but zoom it and you can see my hand has it folded down

Aside from the "orange belly" the markings look like a McCloud to me...

I read in some book somewhere (sorry to be so unspecific, just don't remember the name of the book) that there is a history of McClouds in the river, not sure how strong they are in the gene pool.

Anyway, that's a truly beautiful fish.....

I haven't been trout fishing in altogether too long, its good to see some nice pictures.

I assume they get rainbows from Shepherd. We have alot of rainbows here on Taney have have that orange belly. I know Shepherd crosses their strains with McClouds but regardless, wild or not, they're from Shepherd... probably.

thats something I woud like to know more about . I don't where do they raise our stockers for the eleven point river system

you say Shepherd is that the hatchery ? seems like I remember reading something about a hatchery that has found away to raise trout that look just like wild trout the only thing I Can't put a area with the hatchery this is something I would like to know

I get alot of people asking about this river now that Im working for brian at his canoe rental I would like to be able to answer this question

Any body have any idea ?
