joeD Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Why is the provenance of smallies and spots, in a particular river system, so important? Why are humans never considered "part of nature" or "natural" or "native," when one is arguing about the "natural order of things?" Eric, what DOES the earth intend? If you do know, I'm sure the Christian Coalition would like a few words with you, because they know too. Boxers v Briefs, Stones v Beatles, Apple v Microsoft, Jay v Conan, bottom v top, Smallies v Spots. Intractable differences, with seemingly no resolutions in sight...
ozark trout fisher Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 We can go on and on OTF. I disagree with you too. Spot's were not introduced. They made there way up to the Meramec. On their own. I'm sorry your home river is being over run by spots. Please see my post on Wader's original post. Like he said, he didn 't want this to turn into a spot debate. Look OTF, I know you're a good guy. Join me someday in southern Missouri or in Arkansas. Smallmouth GALORE! I would love to come down there.... But unfortunately time's short these days a and the Bourbeuse + the Meramec are the only smallie streams I have time enough to fish right now, because they're close.

creek wader Posted September 24, 2009 Author Posted September 24, 2009 Wow! All this hoopla, because I posted a pic of a spotted bass, on another post. (because, I caught him on a "wtd') ..... I could really stir up a hornets nest, if I gave my opinion on the trout and trout parks. ... Aaaa.... I won't go there, I'll save it for a day when I'm feeling ornery. lol wader
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Join me someday in southern Missouri or in Arkansas. Smallmouth GALORE! The Kentucky's are moving higher in those streams also. I haven't seen any mention of hybridization, which seems to produce smaller fish in an environment that produces smaller fish naturally. If you're not a Smallmouth stream fishermen, you probably don't realize the impact. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I won't go there, I'll save it for a day when I'm feeling ornery. lol We just did that one a couple weeks ago and it also ended up a little nasty. Maybe one of us should start a thread under the heading "why I like fishing" so we can all have a kumbaya moment. Happy birthday Wader.
Buzz Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Now don't bite my head off. I have read everything posted on this subject over the last few years and I know it won't be resolved on a forum. I also know that most of us don't want any sort of damming done on our streams, but maybe a few mill type dams placed in very well thought out locations could slow the progress of the spots, maybe even give the regulations a better chance to work. Just a thought. I'd like to hear all of the pros and cons for this idea, and not just the inconvenience of floaters. Buzz If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
KCRIVERRAT Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Knew you'd be on here sooner or later. That's a good idea for those who are worried about spots! Missed ya this weekend Buzz. I'll give ya a call... KC HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
