eric1978 Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 What's Glenn Beck got to do with this? I'll break my silence to respond to this, since I probably need to admit guilt in making the conversation more political in mentioning his name. Apologies for that. But my point was that the B.A.S.S article and the response to it is very much like the alarmist, anti-government propaganda Glenn Beck is making a fortune touting. I have my problems with government as well, past and present administrations, but I cringe when I hear rhetoric that is triggered by reactionary fear-mongering instead of facts and/or opinions that are grounded in reality. Again I vow to drop out of this issue. Hope I didn't offend any of you. You're all good guys.
Chief Grey Bear Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 So you believe their interest is illegitimate? I sure do. That Chicken Little tidbit is nothing more than a membership drive. Same thing the NRA does every four years. I haven't heard a word out of them since Jan. 20. Members don't either except for the propaganda mag they send out. Lets be truthful here, the only reason this post and the one below(that is locked up now) are still here as with a couple of others, is that they are to bash the current admin. Wayne SW/MO Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I haven't bashed the current administration, I could on many things reflecting my personal beliefs, but I believe I've concentrated on the Task Force. I don't believe in disagreeing in principle, but in facts. That" why I stated I don't disagree with what appears to be the goal of the directive. It does disturb me that to date the direction appears to ignore the fears of the sport fishermen. All to often I've seen what appears to be a benign agency turned into a threat by a either a new director or a few underlings who have a different interpretation of the original. As far as BASS, NRA, and other organizations that tend to lobby for what I believe in, you bet I support them. Without them I'm afraid the PETA's of the world would put an end to fishing and hunting, period. I say this not because I'm suspicious of their goals, but because that is what they lobby for and it is their goal. If you know of a better way to counter their efforts on behalf of the hunters and fishermen in this country, please share it with us. Do you think I want something different then you do concerning the future of outdoors sports? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 10, 2009 Root Admin Posted October 10, 2009 I sure do. Nobody is being fooled. I try to give 99% of topics a chance to NOT get nasty and if they do, I close to delete them. This post - my count is - "suspicious of the admin" - 9 posts neutral - 6 posts "supportive of the admin" - 8 posts I allowed the initial post because it does deal with fishing. A thought about Lobbyists - in this day and age, the louder and more crass the actions and language the better, it seems, when it comes to lobbyists, on both sides of the issues. Although some of the groups like the NRA and BASS aren't liked because of their politics, what other groups are doing as much for gun and fishing rights? If they weren't there, where would we be? I'm not defending these groups in particular but groups like them in general - and again, on both sides. Most of us dislike PETA but for those who share their views, they are liked, supported. Some hate their methods but still like the results... like some of us with BASS and NRA. I guess you'll have to add a point to the con side so make it 10 posts. I'm sure you guys will catch up.

Buzz Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Yes, but look at the name of the topic. Enough said. I agree totally. IMHO,these are generally good topics for discussion, but those who post them are known for their distaste for the administration and title them in a way that begs for a fight. Just a suggestion, if you really want to discuss these things don't title them in a way that will obviously put people on the defensive. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Chief Grey Bear Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 If you know of a better way to counter their efforts on behalf of the hunters and fishermen in this country, please share it with us. Do you think I want something different then you do concerning the future of outdoors sports? I will address your last sentence first. I sure don't. I know we are on the same team. I just research before for I jump on the finger pointing band wagon. As for the first part of what I quoted, I offer the following. I found it while looking for something else the other day. I don't know how anyone could make the assumpiton that this admin is anti outdoors. http://www.newwest.net/main/article/parks_...e_get_stimulus/ Fortunately, he added, several of those measures were included in the final bill passed by Congress. The press release included the following examples: $375 million for restoration of the Mississippi River and its tributaries, the nation’s largest recreational fishery. $280 million for the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service for refuge operations and maintenance and $165 million for resource management. $230 million for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s operations, research and facilities. $500 million for USDA Forest Service wildland fire management efforts. $27.5 billion investment in highway infrastructure includes set asides for park roads, parkways, forest highways and refuge roads. $290 million for the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s watershed and flood prevention operations. $125 million for the Bureau of Land Management for projects including abandoned mine and well site remediation, road and trail maintenance, watershed improvement and high priority habitat restoration. bigredbirdfan Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 Well let me chime in since I posted the topic. This administration seeks to or has already "changed" this country in major ways. Thats why I posted it that way. And I'm sure they seek to conserve the country's resources. No doubt about that. Climate change here we come. But you see these massive freedom changes start somewhere and right here with "Task Forces". I believe Task means a matter needing action and force....well we all know what that means. Get ready folks. Oh wait a minute Im just crazy bc everything this administation does or wants to do is super cool. Silly me I just need to get in line a march along. So why does the president of Shiamano think this not good? Afterall if this was such a great deal for fishing you would think he would be elated to sell more stuff but he's not. Probably a right winger right? On an unrelated topic I'm shopping for couple of extra assult weapons cause they won't change that either.
