Wayne SW/MO Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 The plus side for some of you will be those undesirables such as walleye, smallmouth, spots and the other rough fish. You mean the native fish? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
laker67 Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 You mean the native fish? That's exactly what I meant to say.
Fly_Guy Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Anybody been out yet? (specifically, any 'rough' fish being caught?)
Members bigdub Posted October 12, 2009 Members Posted October 12, 2009 Couldn't resist, went out yesterday morning for a couple drifts, caught quite a few bows, like Phil said, its gotta be white and its gotta be on the bottom, which with the drift being so fast was a bit tricky. Made 3 drifts down to Lookout, caught 13 bows and 2 nice whites (looks like Bill was right) above the island. Those whites were released, so go get them!! Below Lookout was decent, tried to work our jigs along the bluff. No browns, but the bows were plentiful and hit the jigs hard!! Good luck out there!! A fool with a plan is always better than a genius with NO PLAN!!!!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 12, 2009 Author Root Admin Posted October 12, 2009 Oh man... the whites are back!!!! I tried my white bass spot but didn't get any. I'll have to go back and hit it hard. The bluff bank run below Lookout is surprising. I thought the swells would be too much for a jig to get down. I'll have to try that too. DUB - Did you see us out yesterday? We were in the red G-3 rental.

We were in the red G-3 rental. Whites and all that current, that's got to be fun. Hope they are still there late next week. Keep these reports coming, and I might come down early. If you don't have a cabin open, I'll just sleep in my truck!! LOL Real men go propless!
Members bigdub Posted October 12, 2009 Members Posted October 12, 2009 No, that wasn't us Phil, we were out and about pretty early, had to get back home a little sooner than normal. Our jigs might not have been getting all the way down to the bottom everytime along the bank. We were really casting them up stream(or down, whatever is in the direction of the dam LOL) quite a ways, to let them get all the way down before they out ran the boat!! Yeah, I am crossing my fingers on those whites, we had to get on the road, but you guys will have to let us know if you stumble on any more, we'll be back at it again next weekend and I'm already starting to shake a little bit from withdrawls!! A fool with a plan is always better than a genius with NO PLAN!!!!

Members murl Posted October 13, 2009 Members Posted October 13, 2009 How do I fish this high water? 1/4 ounce jig instead of 1/8 or add weight? Do I cast upstream or down stream 3/4 from boat? My first post.
Members bigdub Posted October 13, 2009 Members Posted October 13, 2009 I just fish 1/8th oz in this high water and where ever I am I just cast back up toward the direction of the dam and let it drift and work it back past parallel to the boat. I have never used anything bigger than an 1/8th on Taney, so my knowledge is limited as far as that is concerned. 1/4 seems a little big to me, but I am far from an expert, maybe PM Phil or maybe he'll chime in on the bigger sized jigs if thats what you want to use. Or what the heck, just throw em a while and let us all know how they work out for ya!! Good Luck out there!! THANKS GATOR, there are no words!!
