Gatorjet Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 THANKS GATOR, there are no words!! Looking forward to meeting you. My son and I will be on Taney next week, 22-25. If you're there, and see something big, green, and LOUD on the lake, stop and say hello. Bob Real men go propless!
bigredbirdfan Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 I fished an 1/8 oz white jig sunday with no results working the middle of the water. I had an extremly hard time fighting the wind and the current and swear I never really felt the jig bounce the bottom at all. Most of the time even casting up stream the jig would be past the boat prior to my counts I use to drop down to the bottom and then working it back perpendicular was out of the question. I also saw 0 shad in the water the 3 hours I fished. Since the 02 seems to be of great importance were the fish stacked up by the outlets where oxygen levels were better?? And here is the big question. Yea Ive got the advantage over the wading fly fishermen bc im in a boat , but if fish are primarialy stacked up over by the outlets what is the rule of thumb regarding casting into these areas where the waders are stacked in like sardines. I'm a pretty polite person on the water (slow down for anchored boats and try not to get into other boats space) but if the fish are there I'm gonna cast in there and I really don't want to hear a bunch of crap.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 14, 2009 Author Root Admin Posted October 14, 2009 I don't cast in the outlets... they are limited to a small portion of water and I have the whole lake. There are more trout in the main lake than the outlets... it's a misnomer to think they are all at the outlet mouths. You experienced the same thing I did with the wind. I had to constantly move the boat downstream with the trolling motor, keeping the boat moving the same speed as the current. I threw straight upstream, which I don't like to do, and starting working the jig when I felt the bottom for the first time. I lost several jigs. I haven't seen any shad either. I have also not seen any FAT rainbows, another sign I usually look for when looking for evidence of shad. I think we've had shad come over the top but they've lived and are schooling around, as reported. The best fishing has been drifting a scud from Andy's down to Fall Creek by far. If the wind isn't bad, the dam drift with white jigs would be good too.
