Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 11, 2009 Root Admin Posted October 11, 2009 Vince and I just get off the lake. Water is still high and fast but manageable. But the wind was tough!! We drifted from the dam down to the ramp a couple of times. The first time we stayed on the north side and caught 5-6 rainbows on white 1/8th oz jigs. Then we drifted more in the middle to south side (gate side, warmer water) and did much better. We would have really done well if we weren't fighting the wind which was blowing us upstream. Vince tried a sculpin jig but didn't do as well. Not saying there's shad coming thru although it was nice to see them nailing the white jigs. They were hitting white before the flood gates though but I don't think as well-aggressive. Did not see any shad. Did see a gar break the surface on the south bank below the cable. We drifted the shallow side from Andy's house down and caught several more rainbows- one on a #10 purple scud and several on red san juans. The wind wasn't as bad on that stretch. Fight fought hard no matter where we caught them.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I wonder how long they will have to keep the gates open. Also, I believe this is the first time I've noticed all gates and not 110% of capacity on all 4 units. Does sound like fun again.... not having any idea what is going to pull on the end of the line. Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.

snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Thanks Phil; After reading the other threads and looking at the pics I wouldn't think O2 would be a problem. That water coming over the top looks like it's plenty aerated. I came down a few years ago when it was coming over the top and we drifted white jigs and just pounded em. Man!!! I wish I could come down and fish. SIO3
tippet7 Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I did see some shad on sunday up by #1. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
FRENZEL Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Well this will cure the O2 prob eh? TRACY FRENZEL FRENZELS GUIDE SERVICE 417-699-2277 "ONE MORE CAST"
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 13, 2009 Author Root Admin Posted October 13, 2009 Well, depends on what side of the lake... heard today that the north side's reading was 2 ppm which is not good. But trout will hang below the outlets which are putting 8.5 ppm into the lake. They know how to stay alive.
