Champ188 Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 The high water may have hurt the deep bite, as it generally does, but there are still ways to catch a good sack of fish. Did it last weekend myself and hope to do it again this weekend in the CPA Shootout. Granted, these tactics aren't feasible for guiding but the bite isn't dead.
jeb Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Thanks Bill. I still feel the fickle finger of fate pointing at us from Beaver Lake. That water will have to go somewhere. Since I fish Beaver, I hope you're right! It'd be nice to see our water level start dropping some, too. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Whack'emGood Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 From other posts it appears that some folks are having some relative success. Are you having extremely bad luck in general or is your luck just been bad for this time of year compared to previous years. I think I am going to come down the first week of November and hope for the best. They are still drawing water down at a significant clip but hopefully they will stop sometime this week and things might settle down. What is the water temp you are getting? Thanks (formerly kcangler) I haven't been down to TR since the flood... but I know that the fishing is traditionally way better down there when conditions are relatively stable. Drastic changes in water level, water clarity, and temperature on TR in the Fall generally make things tough. Stockton was really getting good until this mess happened... cold, high, dirty water is making things a lot tougher up there lately. I hope I'm wrong, however, and the bass really come alive soon at both lakes. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
dtrs5kprs Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 Am hearing about a fun spook / fin bite from 13 to Cow area from a resort owner who used to belong to our local club, good enough his wife is going out with him to enjoy it. Not seeing it anywhere else though, maybe due to the impending derbies. Like Champ says, not a guide bite. Sounds fine to me.
Whack'emGood Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 For most of us that fish here everyday, this is just about as sour of grapes as we could have gotten, as the Rock was just a fixin to turn on big time. Like I said... I hope I (as well as Bill) am wrong. "Success builds confidence, and you have to learn to trust your instincts and forget about fishing the way a tournament is supposed to be won. I appreciate the vote of confidence in me... I only wish I knew what I was talking about most of the time! I will agree with you about Bill though... most of the time he is spot-on. I hope both he and I are wrong this time though! Good luck out there! Whack'emGood Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Good to hear from yu again! We really have to do coffee some day. Absolutely! When we do, I will show you some of my GPS tricks that you were asking about.
