Got tied up at the boat ramp this morning for over an hour because a family couldn't load their boat properly!

Kinda wish someone would teach people how to load and unload their boats!

Maybe a "How to" and "How not to" video????

It happens every year...

Sorry....I HAD TO VENT SOMEWHERE!

So you got out and offered to help them right?? Didn't know it was a law you had to be a professional at putting a boat in and and taking it back out. Part of the problem when learning how to do it properly are the impatient people who think they "own" the ramp leading to even more anxiety and continued mistakes. Come on now, you have to admit even you weren't perfect when you started, it just takes time and a little practice.

Just my observation-

Yeah, I gotta agree. Better to get out and help than to vent about it on a forum... People make mistakes, right?

A day at the launch ramp can be the most entertaining show of a lifetime. I've seen it all I think... But here's a few highlights...

Guys screaming at their wives, then swapping sides and doing a far worse job than the wife did.

Busted asses, complete with blood and broken bones. (TRAILER TONGUES ARE SLIPPERY WHEN WET...DUH !)

Vehicles under water. (I've seen it happen 3 times)

Props and skegs destroyed.

Trailers coming unhitched.

A boat still attached to the trailer....being paddled to shore. (apparently lacking safety chains)

Battery exploding.

Motor being revved upwards to 10,000 RPM out of water and grenading the powerhead.

Engine jumping off the transom of a boat while gooseing it on the trailer.

Trailer tire blowouts while UNDER WATER......(that's really cool to see ! it's like a hand-grenade going off under water).

People falling in boats.

People falling OUT OF boats.

Hole shots with the trolling motor down....SNAP !

Guy tossing another guy his "Golden Rule" bump board and severing a major neck artery.

Poodle falling out and getting run over by a boat (she lived through it).

Motors being put into reverse with loose prop nuts..... and people diving to recover the prop.

Bad tosses, and vehicle keys being thrown into the water....and people diving trying to recover them.

Boats launced without bilge plugs in....and people scrambling to get the boat back on the trailer before it sinks.

Clutches smoking... and the pleasant aroma of a low lingering cloud of hot asbestos.

Boats out in the cove running in circles...With nobody in them.

Child falling in a MDC access crapper.....Poor kid, he was covered from head to toe and scared to death....but Mom and Dad wouldn't even touch him.

A border collie visciously attacking an outboard while his owner was vigorously pulling on the starter rope and cussing (I guess the dog thought the motor had ahold of him).

Now thats funny! While you are on that subject, one of my favorites was two rookies trying to load a brand new 20' Bass Cat. They totally submerged the trailer, tied off tight to the wench, and then pulled out thinking the boat would set on the trailer. Current would carry the boat off so it ended up on the trailer guide bunks every time they pulled out of the water. I tried to tell them to pull the trailer up out of the water more and drive the boat up onto trailer but according to them that wasn't the way they were told to load the boat. I gave up and walked back to my vehicle to watch. Finally they did decided to pull the trailer up out of the water a bit but that's when things got real ugly. You guessed it, they gunned the boat up onto the trailer and straight into the wench assembly. They eventually got it loaded but did some major damage to that pretty metal flake finish. Lots of scratches, deep gouges, and bent trailer guides.

I know where your coming from CrappieMagnet. It can get frustrating. My patience is something that I'm working on. It's easy to get stressed out. This forum is a good place to vent, because we've all been there and done it.

I've been at the boat ramps when people take up both lanes. I usually go by myself, so, I get over as far as I can to allow more boats on the ramp.

Seems like when I'm running late to work, I get behind a school bus, or a tractor. Hit every red light or follow an elderly person on a slow drive.

Whoever coined the phrase : patience is a virture, was right.

Oh by, the way, about every possible snafu in a boat has happened to me. Several of things on the list that fishinwrench described, happened to me. It's not just a boating trip but an adventure.

I think that many problems come from people not caring about other people. I sit there and wait to pull my boat out while the people are not just pulling out their boats they are unloading the boat standing there talking and everything else you can think about. Just load the boat up and do everything else in the parking lot.
