brownieman Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 If I came down there and stood up close to the line as far as I could get and uesd my heavy surf tacke and threw some spoons half way across that lake and ripped em back in would all the local fly fisherman bad mouth me and run me off...especially if I nailed a couple of biguns cause I have the strange feeling it would produce some nice fish if they were running a decent amount of water. I'd do my best to stay clear of the mobs right around the outlets...just never have tried it and wouldn't mind givin it a try. The dam releasing a decent amout of water would be a must.. I just can't get the distance with a big rapala like I can a spoon, 1 to 3 oz. Honest opinions please...the last thing I'm lookin for is an arguement from anyone, ya know. later on My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
laker67 Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Come on down Browieman. On december 28, 1977 I caught my very first taneycomo lunker using the method you are describing. My lure wasn't as heavy as you describe, but the same method. The fish weighed in at 8lb 6oz and is the only lunker that I have caught using spinning gear. All others have been on fly rod. Come on down and give her a try.
patfish Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 I say go for it Brownie! Not that your home waters are all that bad, but everyone needs a little change of scenery now and again. No one will run you off. After all, you know how to read the rules. Take a camera! Lemme know if/when you're thinking about going.
Gavin Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Go for it...Taney needs more fisherman, and the Current needs less ;>)! Might try some different minnow baits...Rapala's are great but they dont cast as well as a minnow baits with a good weight transfer system. Cheers.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 I agree with the others.. try it out. Sounds like a good idea. It could land you a big one too. or bigun as you said (No one would bad mouth you by the way.) if they did.. they are full of it, not you Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.

Anyone who criticizes another for using a legal method is not a true sportsman, just an elitist jerk! The only thing you might have to be careful not to cast above the cable. That might not be legal. Real men go propless!
brownieman Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 That's encouraging laker...I like it. I've got a shimano bait caster that I have taken the brakes out of and a couple of heavy duty rods that even if you don't catch anything it's fun to throw, can't hardely see the spoon hit the water, my old eyes can't anyway. Pat, you be up for something of that nature?...I know there's big brownies down there but here I know exactly where they are and not near the water to have to try to cover, quite a bit more hikin though...you're exactly right about the change of scenery although that scenery behind that big cement bluff don't compare to the real McCoy. thanks for the info guys oh yeah, can a guy catch a couple of zzzzzzzzzzs in his truck if need be in the parking lot there? Brian K. Shaffer Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 I say nay on the sleeping in the car down there. (The police frown on the idea). And you never really know. brownieman Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 Thanks Brian...that sucks though, guess they expect a guy to pay to even catch a couple o winks. Oh well...whatever, maybe I could prop myself up with a stick beside the water, ya think, lol. later on My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
troutgnat Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Have at it and catch a monster! I'm actually slowly venturing into the big bait, big fish method myself. Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"
