For Those Who Don't Bait Fish Or Flyfish.

To everyone,

Rarely do we ever hear of any other trout fishing methods on here outside of bait or fly. I think it would be real interesting to learn of different methods to catch trout on Taneycomo. If you fish lures by cast or troll please share your input.

Let's open this thread up! I believe this could get real interesting!!!

Little Jakes Spin-A-Lure. Silver on sunny days, Gold on cloudy days. With no or little current I will cast it out and retrieve it just above the bottom. A lot of time I will use it as a "locator" lure. I will see several fish following it back to the boat in addition to getting strikes on it. I might then change to Jig & Float.

Rapallas, especially the count down model have also worked for me. I caught a 19" 4 1/2 pound Rainbow just inside the mouth of Fall Creek a few years ago on one.

I will also use the Spin-A-Lure drifting when the are running water. Cast it out like a drift rig, then reel slowly so it just ticks the bottom occasionally. I loose a few doing that, but have caught a lot of fish that way.

Trolling suspending Rogues has also been productive. Expensive, but productive!

Jus-t a tip...works pretty well for me.

On the suspended rouges, cut the hook off the treble that points downward...I still hang em up but does seem to help...I aint rich and it hurts a little to lose a $5 dollar plug.

I've caught alot of my bigger browns by from what I've heard they call "Teasing Steelhead" out on the west coast.

Guess it would be called "Teasing Brownies" around here...think most of the time the fish do better at teasing me than I do them, lol.

I fish almost every weekend and all I do is spinfish. I throw jigs by Leonard, Rapalas, Thomas spoons, storm minnowsticks, old school gold little fish spoons, mepps aglias, roostertails, panthers, and rebel trackdowns.

I am still learning what works at what time of year in the many water conditions of Taneycomo with regards to my lure selection.

So far, winter is better for lures during the day versus summer daytime. Early summer right after dark can be great right below the dam if the water is off. Slow roll floating rapalas, dark spoons, and minnowsticks. Little spoons work pretty good down by the old KOA in winter. I pulled a bunch out of that curve last year.

My favorite has to be 1-2 units running this time of year at night. I throw big J-9 floating Rapalas ang PMS jigs way out and let them go about 100 yards downstream. When I tighten my line, the lure slowly works its way back near shore downstream. Pause and reel and wham!! You never know what you're going to hookup with.

For you guys trolling is there a special art to this? I.E. speed, bottom bouncers, rigs, how much line out, etc. Some specifics might help us that have never trolled before. Thanks.

Besides water depth and choice of lures it's kinda learn the only and best way you can...start trollin.

You can bank on donating some tackle, if you don't you're not doin something right.

Spoon type lures hang up easily, most deep running cranks run nose down enouph they bounce across lots of snags.

One thing I always make sure of is having my drag set kinda loose and working good...I check my drag frequently no matter what kind of fishin I'm doin.

Pretty much a trail and error way of fishin. If you're running a big motor you may need a kicker if your's doesn't idle down pretty slow...or have one heck of a trolling motor and battery.

I know I've donated my fair share of tackle over the years...fishin used to be a sport even a poor man could enjoy, all considered not so much these days.

Trolling real slow with ballons and live shad looks like a blast to me and I've seen guys tear em up.

Used to rent boats out of the Main Street Boat dock back in the early 80s. We would troll the bridges with Little Cleos - the ones that were half blue and silver worked the best, sometimes orange and silver. We also used to fish off the southside of powersite dam and do well with gray crappie jigs under bobbers.

You have over 100 posts on OAF and do not know what a PMS is yet??? Shame on you.

Go to the fly tying section and you should see an example, I think Leonard has come up with some varations on it since that one was posted. But they are KILLER for trout, smallies walleye

It is a pine/marabou streamer. I tried "searching" Pmj* but only found one thread describing it but no pic's or instructions. Help me out here. I've tied pine squirrel zonkers for a while but shame on me never knew of this pmj.
