A took a quick look via Bing. It looks like trips are to outer space rather than the moon itself and the price tag is in the millions. There is a waiting list and I would imagine that trips aren't going to get very common for awhile yet.

Here's a cheaper alternative. Promise the old man that after he passes you'll send his body into outer space. Once he's gone, carry his ashes to the top of Taum Sauk and shoot them straight up out of a potato gun. He won't know the difference. That'll run you about 12 bucks in PVC and whatever it is for gas. You'll need a little Aqua Net, too.

eric - your trivial candor is evident, but honestly, the thing is... my pops really wants to do this.

Alive in space.

so in all seriousness...

Oh. Sorry Brian. I thought you had to be kidding. Yeah, I hope Dad's a rich man, because it's going to be expensive. I don't think 100K will cover it.

100k may get em in orbit, but to da' moon? Not even remotely likely-

Good luck to pops nonetheless!

I heard on the radio about a company , I think it may be Virgin Airlines, who are going to build a hotel in space. 2 months of training, 4 days in space, only $4.4 million.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

So - what does it cost ?

From the link I offered-

"

While the cost of visiting the International Space Station is well beyond the means of most people, for the most elite group, Space Adventures is currently planning on selling tickets for a more expensive journey, which will go all of the way to the moon. While this option isn’t currently accessible yet, the details are indeed underway to make such a vacation possible for a few of the wealthiest people in the world.

Of course keep in mind that the logistics are more complicated than sub-orbiting the earth or landing at the space station. In part this is because the journey will necessitate two separate launches, one of the Soyuz space ship and one of a booster rocket that the Soyuz will need to attach to when it reaches low Earth orbit. It is also important to note that at this point, such a journey will likely be a planned lunar flyby, rather than a full orbit of the moon, because this will be the most cost-effective use of fuel that will be needed for this mission.

The price for a ticket to the moon is currently estimated at between $100 and $200 million."
