Members tkite Posted November 8, 2009 Members Posted November 8, 2009 Even if you did good please tell me you didn't. Or I may pull my hair out. We have 2 more days in Long Creek anyone have a suggestion.
abkeenan Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 tkite- Just got back to STL from TR and fished Sat morning from about 730ish-10am and Today (Sun) about the same times. Fished Beardsley Creek area, the cove down from Big Cedar cove (sorry dont know the names) and also the 86 Campsite area. First thing Sat morning hit a dock in the cove near Big Cedar and only managed 2 fish. 1 short LM and one short smalljaw. One on a 5inch zoom brown worm and one on a chompers watermelon/purple flash jig with a paca chunk trailer in table rock red i think is the color. Those 2 were in about 12 ft of water or so. Also had one pull off a wiggle wart right out of a bush in probably about 5ft of water on the bank out of a bush. Moved to the docks in the back of the 86 launchway cove and caught 3 smallies in the docks, 1 on a green zoom grub and 2 on the chompers/paca chunk jig in about 15-20ft range about midway of the dock. One was a real nice beautiful 3.5lbs and really ate that jig. Will post pics when i learn how to get them from the camera to on the computer. Moved to a point halfway back in beardsley and caught another keeper 2.25 lb SJ on the green grub and had to call it quits around 10ish to go to Silver Dollar City with the family. Was a super enjoyable day and where biting pretty good on Sat. Wish i didnt have to go to SDC to tell u the truth. Went out today and hit the docks in Beardsley and caught one fat little spot on a green grub. Hit point 2 to no avail. Hit the flat/hump across from 86 swim area nada there and then went back to the same docks in 86 campground and caught 2 more smallies, both on the jig, both in same type of water/depth. Not much wind early today as on Sat so fishing wasnt as good in my humble opinion. But cant complain with the weather and fish somewhat cooperated. Dont know if you are in this part of Long Creek but i hope it helps. I would pound the docks at all angles with a jig if i were still down there. The smallies were spitting up crawdads all over the place by the way. -Brett
Champ188 Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Brett, My hat is off to you family guys. Glad my kids are grown and that neither has chosen to procreate yet. Given the option of (A) going to Silver Dollar City or ( removing my own spleen with a butter knife to get out of it, the choice would be simple. Glad you got to catch some fish.
tapout Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Preceding my trip to the lake on Sunday I heard all week from my buds that the K's and whites were on a feeding frenzy with the spoon. I read bb's report a couple days back and it re-enforced what I was hearing. I skipped church (which I truly like going to church but feeding frenzy, c'mon) and got down to KC at 8 and headed up river. Fished till noon with four 13 inch whites and one tiny K. I made the same trip with the same results about a week earlier. there were boats everywhere and best I could tell nobody was just wackin the whites. Made me feel better when a couple in a tundra came over to chat and said they caught 30 saturday and had only 3 on that day. Seems to be day to day. I got to spend the day with my son so its all good. Funny stuff Champ, SDC or spleen?.....I'm pretty sure I'll blow $200 bucks stare at the Christmas lights and tolerate throngs of people to keep my spleen (and make the family happy). In fact I do it every year. But I get it...yeah its right up there with going to the mall and somehow I always wind up there too. I need "Man" lessons. I'd like to thank my FUTURE sponsers: Falcon Rods, Jewel Bait Co, and Seagar
edwin Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 I had some decent success flipping a green pumpkin tube up in the bushes when the sun was lower in the sky...both am and pm. Once the sun was up in the sky, I was able to get on a drop shot bite with the fish being suspended in 25-40'. I was fishing some of the humps up by Baxter along with a bunch of boats...seems my shot was catching way more fish than the guys ripping the spoon 8-10' off the bottom. Finesse seemed to work better for me in the high skies. No K or white feeding frenzy for me but ended up Fri and Sat with about 30 fish each day. Most were shorter fish with 3-4 keeps per day. All things considered, it was a great weekend for me. Got to get acquainted with the new Bass Cat and catch a few fish too! "Advantages are taken, not handed out"
Forsythian Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 I fished out of State Park Sunday morning from sunrise to about 11. There was a decent spook bite for the first hour or two, mostly dinks tho. One nice smallie that took 2 casts and about 5 blowups to finally connect! Could not get bit on a wart, did manage a couple more dinks on a citrus shad crank. Spent an hour or so flippin a jig with no luv. Tied up to a stob in the back of Beardsley and took about an hour nap... that mighta been the highlight of my morning I'd try to learn that deepwater bite one of these days, but first I'm gonna have to learn how to care more about catchin' than I do about fishin'! abkeenan Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Heres some pics from the weekend. The 2 good smalllies were released unharmed under the dock where they hopefully stay for future fun. (dont mind the cleaning board in the background in the one pic, it wasnt used )
motoman Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Great pix abkeenan! That little man and you look like trouble with a capital 'T'! That grin he has is great. Looks like a chip off the ole block. - And that smallie on the boat seat, looks like he's ready to go for a spin. - Good job. I love seeing these kinda pix and reading the reports, for times when I can't get out on the water.
Members tunchi Posted November 10, 2009 Members Posted November 10, 2009 Fished Sunday. Didn't drag myself out of bed early enough for the top water bite but fished a spinner bait -- nothing, crank bait-- nothing. Jig -- did OK, had three or four. TX rig worm -- did real well with nubers and had 2 keepers. Fished in about 3 to twelve ft. Fished DS for a while and cought several--all short. The bite was light untill the cloud cover started rolling in over us. Becky B
Sam Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 My partner and I fished out of Buttermilk Springs yesterday (Monday) from about 9 to 4. We weren't targeting bass, just panfishing for the skillet by throwing little crappie jigs up to chunk rock banks near deep water. We had a ball, and brought a whole bunch of big black perch and several nice crappie home. Of course we caught and threw back about 5 little perch for every one that was big enough to keep, and we caught and released a lot of short bass, so we had a lot of action with small fish all day. Fine with me, I'm easily entertained. My best bass was a 14 3/4" Kentucky, and partner caught a real pretty 14 1/4" smallmouth - fish like that are extra fun to catch on a light crappie pole. Partner got ahold of one fish he just couldn't turn - it didn't move like a bass, it stayed deep and it was so strong and heavy it couldn't be handled on the light rig he had. We chased it with the trolling motor, it finally broke off, and of course he's still talking about the giant catfish or walleye that got away. I'll let him have his fun, but I think it was just as likely a big carp or drum. For you bass fishermen - all day long there were several boats around the "downstream" point of the island there at Buttermilk, the end toward Joe Bald. Folks were catching and releasing bass there all day long. Some were spooning for them straight down, and the ones that weren't jerking a spoon were, I think, drop-shotting or using jigs and grubs. At one point we crossed the lake and scoped near where they were fishing, and all around that point in 60 feet of water there were a whole bunch of fish suspended 40 to 45 feet down, so that's what they were into. What a great day it was to be on the water in November. I've had a good fishing trip this week, and I'm looking forward to hunting deer this weekend. That's a pretty good deal.
