BredMan Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 FYI to those in the ST Louis area. Gateway Outfitters (the old Dunns Sporting Goods store at Cave Springs/I-70) is closing and clearing out all their stock at different percentages off. Everything and anything related to fishing is at 40% off. As of Saturday afternoon there were some very nice G Loomis, Shimano, Fenwick, St Croix, and a few assorted other makes of casting and spinning rods left. Reels are practically all gone. This was not advertised but word of mouth has spread quickly. I also saw that all their bows in stock were 20% off but much of the hunting things are gone. It may may be worth a stop if you are in the area. New hours are now 11:00 - 7:00 Mon-Sat only. I just couldn't pull the trigger on a $350 Loomis rod but did get a very nice Shimano rod, several Rapalas (CD and Floater at $4 or less), few spools of line, and some misc items.

Cool, thanks for the tip. I'm in the market for a new Loomis at the moment. Did you notice if there were any Bronzeback models there?
BredMan Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 Cool, thanks for the tip. I'm in the market for a new Loomis at the moment. Did you notice if there were any Bronzeback models there? Have no idea what models of the G Loomis rods are left but they were priced in the upper $200 to mid $300 range. I checked out the price on the Shimano rod I bought and the original price was actually a bit lower than what BPS and Cabelas sells it.....really didn't need it but at another 40% off I could resist. You will have to go and see what they have left. In the past week or so I have been in there 3 times. Getting to be less and less but still worth a look. I am sure you will find something to buy.
Members Sherwood Flycaster Posted November 9, 2009 Members Posted November 9, 2009 Well, that sucks. Another smaller local operation that caters to us biting the dust. Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark
joeD Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Loomis sets the price for retailers, and I don't think they allow discounts, even for retailers going out of business.
eric1978 Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Loomis sets the price for retailers, and I don't think they allow discounts, even for retailers going out of business. I've noticed that you hardly ever see them on sale, but I do occasionally. I'm going out there tomorrow...want me to get you one while I'm there Joe? I'll bring it down to you and you can show me all your favorite spots while I'm there.
joeD Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Eric, that'll be easy. My favorite spot is on the couch with the TV on and the remote and a cocktail close at hand.
joeD Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Really, I've never seen or heard Loomis rods on sale at the retail level. Love the rods though. I wonder, if I added up the cost of my rods (many Loomis), reels, other tackle, canoes, clothes, bags, liquour, cigars, food, gas, other dung , arguments (no, scratch that) discussions or guilt trips, how much money and emotional capital I actually spend on fishing? Let alone thinking about it. That's pretty scary. For me. Yes, it's a sickness and I LOVE IT!
eric1978 Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 WooooooHoooooo!!!! Just bought a GLX for 40% off!!!! Never would have bought one retail, but I couldn't pass up the deal. I had my eye on a Bronzeback model, but the GLX ended up $40 cheaper!! Awesome!!! Now I just have to chop some of the handle off. There are still a few Loomis rods left, along with a few St. Croixs and Shimanos if anyone is interested. They have some reels left, too. Didn't look close but saw a Sustain (or Stradic, can't remember) 2500. Also quite a few other Shimanos and some Daiwas and Quantums. All fishing equipment 40% off, even Loomis. They still had a ton of tackle left, picked up a couple Sammys and bags of plastics...quite a few LCs and Rapalas on the shelves. Line, terminal tackle, etc...bargain city. Didn't look at the hunting stuff or apparel, but it looks like there's still quite a bit to pick through.
motoman Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I'm with yah Sherwood. That's a shame they're closing. They carried quite a bit of stuff Cabelas and BPS would never think of carrying.
