What Does This Weigh

Say what you will about the weight, that is why I asked.

But questioning the length is funny. It is definately at least 23.5" (I have looked at the picture 100 times since I got some of the responses).

Here is my calculation

MDC calculation = (23 * 23 * 23) / 1600 = 7.6 (notice I used 23 and it is still over 7)

Subtract a pound due to it being a pond bass and that my hands must be small and I am not that big of a boy ...

And the grand total weight is 6.6 pounds ... still my best and I didn't even use the real length.

Next time I will take the digital scale, but I won't have a witness so it won't count.

Thing is though, is you weren't fishing in a tourney, so weight is irrelevant. The number that you should be looking at is how much fun it was to catch on a scale of 1 to 10. That's all that matters. You got a picture of it, so you really don't need to know how much it weighed for bragging rights.

The memory out weighs everything else...picture or not.

Does size matter ?...guess it depends on what's trying to be sold, lol.

I'm Guessing twelve pounds, not an ounce less! (the camera always adds 5 pounds, I am accountng for that)

dunno which picture you fellers are looking at, but the second one clearly shows that the fish is dang near as big as the pond!

But it was prolly a wimp and just limped right in, didn't it? lol

What a toad! I fish a pond by a friends house occasionally too but i hardly catch anything over 1.5 lbs. great catch.

Its a nice fish....but the body looks kinda skinny for its length. Should be pretty easy for fat 23" fish to outweigh that one by a good margin...Its still a 24" bass though. I figure that length is a better measure because weight can vary alot depending on body condition and when you catch em.....Congrats!

I wouldn't worry about it's weight. A lot of people put too much stock in the weight of a fish. ...I quit judging fish by weight. To most novice fisherman, a bass bigger than the average fish caught that day, always seems to be a 5 Lb.er. Must be a lot of 5 lb. bass out there.

Many fisherman get hung up on the weight. I usually measure my fish. A bass over 18" is a good fish, and one over 20" is a nice fish. Anything over 22" is a hog.

If I don't have a tape on me. I use a stick and try to break it to the size of the fish. Or mark it with a knife and measure it later. If no stick is available than, I measure it with my rod and measure the rod later. Or, I just tell everybody that I caught a 5 lb bass, ... lol

wader, I know you do a lot of fishing from your toon, so this might work for you...I took a sharpie and marked up to 25 inches on the handle of my paddle from the tip of the blade. It's as good as a golden rule and you can see how long the fish were later when you're looking at your pics if you take them laying on the paddle.

Coolers I buy have rulers on the top. If I'm too far from the canoe and the fish seems worn out I don't take the time to walk back... just admire it and release. Missed some camera shots in the past too. Like the idea of marking your rod. I'm gonna do that on all my rods!

I've started marking all my rod at the 15" and 20" mark from the end of the handle. It's not precise by any means but it does allow me to get a good idea.
