Okay, I will fall in line, Taney is God's gift to the Ozarks I would have just assumed that the NFWF would rather contribute to a native species or a native habitat restoration than something of this nature. That is my fault, nobody else's. On with the thread. I will watch from the sidelines on this one. Andy
Bman Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 There have been quite a few great ideas mentioned here. I am hoping that MDC and the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation and Bass Pro.takes into consideration the great comments by members, and makes some beneficial changes to the waters. I am eagerly waiting to adapt to the new conditions. The only good line is a tight line
Leonard Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 I have to agree with Jeremy.. Some of the rocks placed should be big and flat... maybe add a few small rock (boulders) under them to provide a hiding place... one end buried and the other end a foot or 2 off the bottom Like the big rock that had the space under it down it the rebar hole.. (covered after the flood).. Instead of adding more... they can the pull it back out use to be a big ledge rock right in the center just below outlet 2... maybe add another.. These were not thick rocks.. but they were huge and produced alot of fish in these areas.. *** Personally I dont think they can add big rock and not increase the lake level... with out removing (dredging) some of the small rock out.... If they did.. I would say add it into the other spot to make more eddies/gravel bars... or some along this line http://www.taneycomonights.com

Any way you look at it the guides benefit the most. We are all paying to contribute to their lively hood. Wether it be structure or trout stocked for their clients. But I do love reading here their bashing of the MDC. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. Have no idea what you're talking about. Now, back to habitat.
Chief Grey Bear Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Yeah, back to habitat. Habitat for the next truck load of trout. I really need to get down there some day though. I need to get some return on my investment. Fly_Guy Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I for one am glad for the way Taney is now. I love eating the taney trout, who have been in there long enough to lose their 'trout park' taste. It is a glorified fish tank, but it is what is. DONT get indignant - I would gladly eat a large trout, if the smaller ones didn't taste better. And if they get low, MDC puts in more. And we pay for em. There are PLENTY of places to catch the native sm if you want a river setting. Wade down the Finley or James for a real experience with native fish. Otherwise, fish TR. As for habitat, I wouldn't mind some large boulders in a broken line from cable to outlet 3. Create some deeper water. How about a large stump or two anchored deep in the middle of the deeper water?
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 30, 2009 Author Root Admin Posted November 30, 2009 MDC looked at the White and saw that most if not all the "wood", stumps and logs, washed out the first time they ran water. So anchoring these wood items is the trick. I doubt MDC would want to try anchoring any, esp in the middle, just to have them break free and float into someone's dock. I wouldn't blame them. So unless they find a way to anchoring them, I doubt if they try. But wood would hold more bugs and fish for sure. I thought may be laying boulders on cedar trees- small trees or just branches? Wonder how that would work? Could drill holes in the boulders and cable trees to them.
