Aaron J Scott Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Happy Thanksgivings, guys. If any of you Nianger regulars are out on Friday, me and the other Scott boys are floating/fishing from Bennett to Barclay. We'll be the three guys in the 18' canoe with our lines all tangled together. Give us wave and a shout! Save Scratch, Raise Cash. Fish Itch!
FishinCricket Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Hope you had good luck! cricket.c21.com
fishinwrench Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Hey Aaron, I hit the access area today from 12:30 til 4:30. The water's lookin' real good, you guys are hitting it perfect. I was playing with a new (to me) fly, a #12 picket pin, and ended up catching 11, all Rainbows and all pretty small. I think I could of busted a dozen with a few bigger ones in the mix had I stuck with what I already knew was working. The best one today was still shy of 15" and had a chewed up tail. It was cool to be on the river on Thanksgiving day though.... just Me and the squirrels and the fish. Best stress relief known to man. Here's the Picket pin... they're hitting it pretty good, but not as good as leeches and buggers I don't think. Hope you tear'em up.....let us know how it goes.
DaddyO Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Wrench, Is this the recipe that you used for the Picket Pin? Hook: Nymph, 2-3x long, size 8-14 Thread: Black Tail: Brown hackle barbs Hackle: Brown, palmered over body Body: Peacock herl (use 3) Wing: Grey squirrel tail Head: Peacock herl DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
eric1978 Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 This is the recipe he sent me for it... I'm assuming he won't mind me sharing it since he posted a pic of it... Hook- 9671 #12 Thread- 6/0 Uni Weight- 10 turns .020 lead wire Tail- brown hackle fibers Hackle- brown rooster (3/4 palmered) Body- peacock herl (3) Wing- gray squirrel tail hair (extending to middle of tail) Head- peacock herl Body- Peacock herl (3)
fishinwrench Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Yep that's it. I tie it with weight just like Eric posted. Yesterday was the first time I had fished it, and it caught fish dead drifted in the riffles and tailouts, on the swing, and when stripped upstream.....so apparently there's no way to fish it wrong. It's an OLD pattern that just has "that look" about it... so I had confidence in it before I ever even got it wet.
