Members Conehead Posted November 26, 2009 Members Posted November 26, 2009 Hey friends, Making my annual trip to Branson at the end of January. (can't wait) I see a lot of talk about about PMS. I think it's a fly and not a state of mind. I have searched this forum and the web and cannot come up with the pattern. Anyone able to help me out?? George
Brian K. Shaffer Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Pine Squirrel streamers ? PMS... pale morning stone ? I don't even use those here. I am afraid there is not much to go on.... I have no idea.... Private Message System ?? But that's not a fly. Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
fishinwrench Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 It's a big (#6 200R) Pine squirrel leech...basically. Olive marabou tail with a few strands of red flashabou or crystal flash, and a palmered pine squirrel body. I believe Leonard (night angler) spawned it.

Leonard Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 George.. The PMS... is an something (a idea) I came up with about few years ago... PMS stand for Pine (squirrel)/Marabou/Streamer... It works really great at night.. but also during the day.. It imatates a minnow/a sculpin/ a leech. so it basic a 3 in one fly... at the beginning of 2010 you will see it everywhere.. Rainys fly has picked it up to manufactor.... as of right now you can get them from Phil (he sell them in the shop) or Feather-craft.. they have carried them since the beginning of this year... By the why - do you mention the originator of the fly pattern at all ? Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.

Thom Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Sorry Leonard.. but a pullety pull to the tail of that pattern is in order my friend. I have heard this same put down by another so called expert but I will tell you for sure THE PMS works. Leonard started my grandson out with one on night at Taney and in less than 5 minutes he had landed 5 nice bows. I had the same experience. We killed them at Bennet one afternoon on the PMS along with a nice 4# smallie swinging it in the current in zone #2 The PMS is an excellent representation of a sculpen and works both wighted and unweighted depending on conditions and water flow. It is simular to other streamers but for some reason seems to outfish them. Zack has learned to tie them and so has my son and are a regular part of the arsenal that is one of the go to flies under the right conditions. They catch fish not saying that other streamers don't but it definately fishes differently and rides the current differently. Don't knock it if you havent tried it or don't know how to fish it. Thanks Leonard for showing us how to fish it as well as tie it. IT WORKS! THOM Thom Harvengt
Brian K. Shaffer Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I'm not putting the fly down at all. I've fished it for years - from like 1999 to now. I just think the tail get short-strikes out the wazoo with trout. It's just another fly and you added a different tail on it. a Joe from Wapsi will tell you... Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.

Well then, if he changed the fly to make it his own pattern, wouldnt HE be the originator of the PMS fly then? I read somewhere that there are no new fly patterns, only changing exisiting patterns for a tyers needs or wants. Hence, another "NEW" design is created. If you have been fishing a different fly(materials, hooks, etc) then it is a different fly. Leonard came up with adding the pine squirrel, end of discussion, the PMS IS HIS DESIGN. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
