My Dad turns 60 this year, my brother and I would like to take him to Canada on a fishing trip of a lifetime. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to go? We would like to catch smallies, wallies and muskie if possible. All of us fish have fished the rock our entire lives, but would really like to go on an unforgettable Canada trip. We would like to rent a boat there, no fly-ins, and have nice lodging. Thanks Again for all your help.

Fire Side Goggle it I have a some freinds that go up every year. For a week of fishing and meals and lodging it runs around 1,000/person. At least that is what they tel me I have seen pics of the fish and it looks awesoem. They say the Breakfast and dinners are out of the world.

Good Luck

I've only ever done fly-in. Amazing experience. Ontario is the only place I've been, 3 times, with Wilderness Air. Got spoiled on walleye, so now I rent a boat along Stockton, troll for a few hours, catch 3 nice walleye, and consider it a waste of time... :(

Good choice - I don't know I've ever heard someone who had a lousy fishing experience in Canada. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful - but ah the memories...

Rainy Lake is on the Canadian border at Interantional Falls, Minnesota. Check out Thunderbird lodge. I could post lots of small mouth pictures as it is one of the best small mouth lakes in the Nation. It has actually ranked second behind Panama by some magazines in the past. Red Gut bay is on the Canadian side and has slabs of crappie. Walleye is what the lake is famous for.

There is musky there, (Brule Narrows) but you know it is 100 cast per musky catch. To much work for me.

Anyway......a place you might want to consider.

Huber's Lone Pine Lodge - Dryden, Ontario. Located on Lake Dinorwic and Wabigoon. Great fishing: Smallies, Walleyes, Yellow Perch, Pike, Musky. Great accommodations and fabulous food. Drive right to it. I've been there and had a great time. PC

I stayed at Northstar Village in Minaki three years ago (Winnepeg River) nice place. Great Small mouth fishing, good walleye and pike. We were there before the muskie season was open, but caught two nice one's trolling. More boat traffic than I expected on a Canadian fishing trip, and I don't know if they rent boats, but it is an easy drive trailering a boat. I have also stayed at Halley's Kettle Falls Camp (English River). Cabins are more rustic than Northstar. Walleye and Pike fishing is better. Muskie and smallmouth fishing not as good as Northstar, but Halley's feels more like a Canadian trip. I believe they rent boats, we trailered there. I know several who have gone to Halley's for years and continue to go every year. If you want to target muskies, make sure you are there during the open season. My group started going to Devil's Lake in North Dakota. Crossing the border was getting to be such a hassel. Great Walleye and pike fishing, but not nearly as pretty as Canada. I would hit the Boat Sport and Travel Show, or Canada Show nearest you and talk to resort reps at the booths to narrow down your choices. Wherever you choose to go, it will be a great trip! Make sure you tell us how it went.
