Gone Fishing Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I went fishing this weekend and my screen was fogged over from the inside making it hard to see the screen. Does any one know if there is any way to get rid of this or am I just sol.
Dutch Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I have heard that you can lay it face down in the sun on a towel and it will dry it out but I have no proof of that. I have had some do that in the past and they never got over it but that was before I heard about the sun/towel thing.
Zack Hoyt Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I know with other electronics, I have put it in a bowl of uncooked rice. The rice will draw the moisture out and dry it. I would say if you are getting condensation behind your screen, there is a seal issue. Might check around the edges for something like that.......or keep a bag of rice in the boat. Dutch Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Zack can you elaborate on the rice? Do you lay the unit on it or cover it up with rice?
Zack Hoyt Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Well definately use commonsense.....I have seen some people do very odd things with this. I try to cover any huge holes. Having rice in your display might keep the moisture out, but probably isnt the best for it. I would lay it face down in the bowl to see if that works. I honestly have never had an issue totally immersing anything in rice, but again, watch your connection holes. If the facedown dosent work, then go ahead and fully cover it. Rice is very good about drawing moisture out of different things. I have used this with GPS units, cell phones, etc. Does that help? Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
Gone Fishing Posted December 7, 2009 Author Posted December 7, 2009 Thanks for the advice guys. Looks like I am off to Wally World to get some Rice.
gitnby Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Mine did the same thing yesterday? Didn't notice it until I had the Sun shining right on it for a while. Maybe the heat on the screen from the Sun combined with the cold air caused it. Kinda like hot breath on a cold mirror? Laid it flat overnight on boat deck. Today it was fine!

Try putting it in a large ziploc bag for a few days, sealed up with uncooked instant rice in it. It's supposed to act like desiccant.
