Wayne SW/MO Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Is there interest in establishing a MSA Chapter in this area? Possibly alternating meeting locations to make it more available to different sections. For instance if there is sufficient interest in the SW corner, then meetings could alternate in Neosho or Joplin and Springfield. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 13, 2009 Root Admin Posted December 13, 2009 I tried to find a site to see what MSA is all about... it seems their site is down? Got this off http://fly-fishing-smallmouth.com/html/sm_alliance.html - Missouri Smallmouth Alliance: Contact Joe Dmuchvosky at motsa@smallmouth.org
Chief Grey Bear Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 I am not interested an any type of association with the MSA. I have been to their web site and I was astounded at the negativity they had for the MDC. Absolutely hateful rhetoric in my opinion. Just like what I keep reading on this forum on this subject. And then they turn right around and want the MDC's help. Best of luck to you anyway. Chief, I've read over the MSA website and I must have missed the "astounding hateful rhetoric" that you are referring to. Can you give me an example ?
Chief Grey Bear Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Not anymore. They have completly changed the site. Good move in getting rid of that too. Looks like someone finally came to their senses. Wayne, is this poll open to those only actually residing in SWMO? If not I think your results may be inaccurate. msamatt Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Phil: We're at www.missourismallmouthalliance.org CGB: I'm not sure that we've ever had any "hateful rhetoric" about the MDC on our website. While we'll disagree with certain MDC policies and practices from time to time we're not hateful. Wayne: Thanks for stepping up and doing this. Wayne SW/MO Posted December 14, 2009 Author Posted December 14, 2009 Wayne, is this poll open to those only actually residing in SWMO? If not I think your results may be inaccurate I will assume people are sincere in their interest, you don't have to be a Missouri resident to support the MSA. I would be interested in what you believe to be Hateful Rhetoric. I've visited the site off and on for years and apparently missed it. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Would there be any benefit for the swmo chapter if I waited until it's formed to sign up ? Or does it not matter which chapter you join through ?
Members Jim: NE/OK Posted December 14, 2009 Members Posted December 14, 2009 Even though I live in Tulsa, I've belonged to the Mo. Smallmouth Alliance for sereral years only to support their very active efforts to promote and protect the smallmouth population in Mo. streams. Also, I fish the Elk, James and Gascanade often. When they had their annual fishing "get together" on the James, my son and I attended. I was very, very impressed with the membership and their efferts on behalf of smallmouth fishing. Even though I may not make all the weekday meetings, a SW chapter gets my full support. I could attend every stream "get together" like the eastern MO. group does on a regualar basis. Some things they do as a group is clean up streams and acces areas, group fish to lessen "spots" when they overwhelm a smallmouth stream, or to just group camp/fish. Their meetings have guest speakers by the state game commission and other speakers closely connected to smallmouth fishing. I might add, they work very closely with the state game officials. Jim
Chief Grey Bear Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 CGB: I'm not sure that we've ever had any "hateful rhetoric" about the MDC on our website. While we'll disagree with certain MDC policies and practices from time to time we're not hateful. We may have two different thoughts as to what it was, but it was more than just a disagreement with policies and practices. It looked like something you would read on "Take back the MDC" site. That is what turned me away from the MSA. But since the site has been rebuilt, niether one of us can back up our claim. I will assume people are sincere in their interest, you don't have to be a Missouri resident to support the MSA. I would be interested in what you believe to be Hateful Rhetoric. I've visited the site off and on for years and apparently missed it. And your assumption would be correct. But the question was if anyone was interested in starting a chapter in SWMO, not joining the MSA. I am sorry I can not fully answer the second part of your post. As I stated above, the site has been rebuilt and it is no longer there.
