patfish Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 For myself, I dug out my old ice skates to participate with all my extended family for some old fashion ice skating - bonfire - hot dog eating - marshmallow burning - hot beverage drinking on my bro-in-law's lake! Been years waiting on some good ice and we finally have a great opportunity. That is quite possibly the ONLY good thing about the weather being this cold. Nice BredMan!
Members MnWalleyeGuy Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 Funny thing is I was on the lake that afternoon before the guy fell in. The sun came out, got warm, and I watched the ice begin to honeycomb. I packed my stuff up and told the other guys that were there that the ice would be dangerous within a few hours. Most of the guys that were there left when I did. A couple of guys told me that I was full of S***....I wonder how they feel about it now! I'm going to check the ice tomorrow, and if it's good, then I am going to hit it the next 3-4 days. Power auger is dying to go to work! I would like to hear your results if you do go ice fishing at Busch. But I would rather hear them on this forum and not on the local TV news like the guy they pulled out of the ice break on Lake-24 last year! BTW - He was a loco local and not a seasoned ice fishing vet from the great white north. Good luck, looks like the weather is definitely going to cooperate and provide enough ice thickness. I'd really like to know if the ice is thick enough for ice fishing. I have a manual ice auger that I really want to try out. I know it will be work but I figure I could heat myself up some before I freeze!!! Probably won't be able to get over to Busch until this Sunday. Heard they stocked the catch and keep lakes today. Good luck!
Members MnWalleyeGuy Posted January 7, 2010 Members Posted January 7, 2010 6"+ of ice. Plenty of ice. Went out this morning. Caught 10-15 fish. Threw them back, nothing huge, but the action was good. Going out again tomorrow morning.

Members MnWalleyeGuy Posted January 7, 2010 Members Posted January 7, 2010 I do, I have a Vexilar FL-18. Only way to go. Probably going to hit lake 24 tomorrow.

Thanks for posting about the ice thickness. I'm going to give it a try tomorrow afternoon. Will probably try out 23. Did you do any good at 24?
Members MnWalleyeGuy Posted January 10, 2010 Members Posted January 10, 2010 Did good @ 24. Someone cut holes with a chainsaw and shovelled a ton of snow away from their holes. Good way to spook fish. I am going to hit 24 again Sunday. I'll be the guy with the black pull behind strikemaster sled and the power auger. Probably will be smoking a cigar.
Members MnWalleyeGuy Posted January 11, 2010 Members Posted January 11, 2010 Did pretty good this weekend on the ice. 6-8" of solid ice. No monsters caught, but decent activity. The high pressure front has really drove the fish to the bottom. Going to hit it again next weekend as long as there is ice! Fished 24 every day. Watched a lot of people come and go on the ice, most stayed for about 30 mins or less. Guess it was too cold for them! Anyone on here give it a shot?
snagged in outlet 3 Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Good going MWG. Thanks for the report. That water's too hard for me. Maybe when it thaws I'll head back over. There are no fish at Busch anyway. SIO3
