I listened to an audio clip of Mike McClelland on how to fish the McStick on another website. He said when he does not want a slow rise he replaces the front hook with one a size larger.

I have a pretty good selection of Rogues but was looking to buy a couple of the Mcsticks. Being a cheap college guy prolly only buy 1 or 2. With the limited selection of color patterns on the McSticks which two would you guys recommend the most? I'll be fishing Lake of the Ozarks a bunch over my spring break in March. Thanks!!

Set the hook first, ask questions later...

Don--

After throwing the Megabass for a long time I realized it is easier to wrap the suspend strip around the rear trable (or even the middle). Just when you think the dot/strip is never going to come of the bottom of the bait....it does...Just a quick tip if you ever have that problem....To anyone that has not thrown them you have to add some weight just to get them to suspend...Most are "slow floaters."

You almost always have to "tune" suspending jerbaits a little - even the high-dollar ones. I like lead flytying wire (50/50 rolled solder from Lowes works too) better than the stick on weights because it's cheaper, and rarely comes off.

This picture is getting a work out - I think it's about the 3rd time this week this topic has come up somewhere.

After all the talk about the McStick's I'll have to pick up a couple, I haven't tried them yet, mostly using the XCaliber XS4 for the coldest water these days.

Neat ideal, will give that one a try.. Any issues with too much weight from the 50/50?

Thanks again

Don has some good suggestions on color, take a look at the Norman Flake as well, it was the top color on LOZ last year.

Good Luck

Hey all, I really appreciate the tips! Both here and in the past too! Your information has been extremely helpful at all stages in my fishing!!

Nope. The lead wire (either kind) is super easy to get right, too. Take a small piece about 2 or 3 inches long and put it through the front hook eye, twist once, and try it at boat side, snipping off little bits off (with small side-cutter pliers) until it suspends like you want, then twist it on like in the picture. If it wasn't enough weight to begin with, get a longer piece and repeat. I use a dab of super glue on the wire ends when it's "perfect", but rarely have had fish throw off the lead when fighting them. The stick-on weights are handy, but I'm cheap, what can I say.

Our Cabelas carries 'em. Not sure where you live mo4packer, but they always have free ship-to-store. Kinda nice if you just want to try one bait, or one bag of worms; so you don't get stuck paying more for shipping than the product............BPS needs to take the hint! <_<

Got a question for you guys who throw the McStick frequently; anyone modify them in anyway besides adding weight?

-

I've got a few, and really like 'em; just curious if any other tweaking recommended.
