If you had to have a go to fly to fish the fork in high and or low water, what two would they be? I'm heading down next month and I need to tie up some guarantee fish catchers.

Size and pattern would help!

Thanks in advance.

I would use a size 14 sowbug or scud. Doesn't matter what color as long as it is grey or tan.

BobWhite, 1/80 oz lead Jig Head painted white. White thread, white un-waxed dental floss tied in above the hook point and wrapped to the head creating a tapered body. Whip finish and coat all of the dental floss with head cement.

I wouldn't. I'd read John Berry's reports. I'd tie what he uses AND I'd go by Blue Ribbon and ask what was hot. If it was something I didn't have, I'd buy 3 flies of a particular fly/size.

Y2K's, white beadheads, Zebra midges are all must haves.

I would use one of 2 patterns. Either a Chuck's emerger... or a JoeBob's emeger.

Known as 'The Old Man of the Norfork River', Chuck Davidsons pattern is legendary... and the JoeBob is just a variation. 2 of the deadliest patterns on the Norfork for over 25 years. Size 18.

Blue Ribbon Flies sells both.

( I took a 12lb rainbow on the White in the RV park on a JoeBob's fished with a tiny shot )

Do you fish the emerger like a soft hackle and swing it? Or dead drift? I also noticed chucks emerger used duck fibers as a tail. If your imitating a midge I take it you omit the fibers? If acting like a dry fly tie the fibers in...

Since y'all are talking about Chuck Davidson's midges, you might want to check out the letter that Chuck sent to me in 1984, in which he gives the recipes for his 5 favorite midges.

This letter was published in Southern Council's "Long Cast", Vol 27 No. 3 Fall Issue P.16:

I hope that ya' enjoy these patterns from the grand old man of the Norfork. He is still greatly missed by those of us lucky enough to have met him.

Enjoy,
