I have not fished taney from a boat before and was wandering what I need to look out for if I want to run from Lookout to Rockaway area. And i have a 140 evinrude that runs 53, how long should it take.

Thanks for the help

Why would you want to "run" from Lookout to Rockaway? You'll be running over a lot of great fishing.

Navigational hazards will depend on lake levels due to generation at the dam. With enough generation for a lake level of 705 or so, no problem just run the middle of the lake. less than that, shoals below Fall Creek, and Short Creek. Just stay on the side opposite the creek inlet. After Short Creek, you can run anywhere.

Travel time will depend on how many boats are on the lake. Often there are so many in areas that you have to just idle past them. Also, you will have to go through a "no-wake" zone across the entire lake in front of Scotty,s Trout Dock just above Branson.

Others will probably have better info for you, with my jet, I don't worry too much where I run.

Also, Lilley's, and other resorts or marinas will have maps showing the shallow shoals.

Thanks for the info. I found a private ramp that I can use right above lilly's, but I am going down to rockaway to go after some bass. I have never really fished taney at all, except from docks. I am mostley a bass guy on the bigger lakes, but I thought it would be a challenge to go down and try to catch some bass this winter down there.

From just above Lilley's you won't have a problem with shallow water, also the lake is wider so boats fishing along the way shouldn't slow you down a lot. I have thought about trying bass in Taney, just haven't done it yet. Let us know how you do.

I assume it's Riverpoint's ramp. You'll have Short Creek's bar to go around, then there's nothing else to worry about.

I wasn't thinking. Now that you mention it I guess that is the only private ramp abouve your place. Didn't think of it being private either.

Why would you want to "run" all those miles at 53 mph, on a narrow lake that's basically a river, making a big wake and bouncing the docks and other fishermen's boats around the whole way? It's not like the trout fishing's any better where you're going than in all the water you're "running", either.

And if you want to fish for bass around Rockaway, why don't you use the free ramp at Rockaway? Just sayin'.

SAM, just sayin... It takes less time for me to run there than to drive there and not that much gas. I wasn't going after trout, I was trying to target bass. As for the docks, I idle past the major resort docks and even some fisherman where the lake is more narrow. Down past branson it does not hurt the docks at all. I respect docks and the dock owners because my family ownes one on table rock. Thanks for the helpfull info but I know how to be respectfull to docks. Just sayin..... As for my trip, the bass where hard to come by on the main lake, most of the larger coves are frozen over. Did catch a trout on a jerk bait but that was it.
