Predator1 Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Anyone know if the WHITE BASS have been biting? I know the old run is getting close. Just curious if anyone has been catching any in the lake and where? Greatly appreciated.
Bill Babler Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I believe those Whities have gotten a mite tough. Seems they have moved along from the flats and humps they were on just before Christmas. Spoke to several Shell Knob locals, that had just been all over them as we all had all Fall and Early Winter, but it seems they disapeared. I would look at the flats at the Mouth of the Kings River and the Flats up the White River, but most of the old boys say they are off those locations. Sorry. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Predator1 Posted January 20, 2010 Author Posted January 20, 2010 Thanks Bill. Now that Deer season is over, its time to work the ol rods. Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Years. Yea, I wish I could have fished the fall for the Whites. //// Do you know where I can get the little plastic beetles for beetle spins in purple by the 1000's? You can PM me if you want.
Bill Babler Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I do not. However you can get swimming minnows in purple and put them on the B.Spin, and I believe they would be killer. Might try it myself the minnows come in all colors and they no doubt would look great under the small colorado spinner on the bettle spin. Lilleys' carrys a huge inventory of the minnows as they are Phil's favorite crappie and white bass baits. Good Luck. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Micheal Kyle Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Try Fin-Feather up in Springfield talk to John I am sure he will be happy to order if he does not have them in stock. I know he has just about every color in the swimming minnow dept they make. To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Dutch Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I used to buy them in Forsyth but that was years ago. Here is a quote I found on the net that may give you some direction: "Well I asked on the tackleunderground site and a guy asked me what colors I was looking for and I said chart pepper and cotton candy (pink body with purple and green flake in it). He writes me back a day later asking for my address so he could send me some samples and they just came in, I'll post some pics tonight but these grubs are soft and look really good. Got the 1.25" size and they fit great on a 1/32 and 1/16 jig head."
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 20, 2010 Root Admin Posted January 20, 2010 I have 10,000 3-inch purple swimming minnows in stock at this time.
getfished Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I have 10,000 3-inch purple swimming minnows in stock at this time. That's.........well that's just an uh uhhhh an approximation right? I mean...... you didn't stay up last night and cou, naw you couldn't of. http://www.tacklespecialty.com/
Sam Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 The Purple Beetle - boy, I've had a lot of fun with those. I always got them at Fin & Feather, as has been mentioned, but I'd caution against getting 1000 of them at once. I stocked up big several years ago, then I found that the purple color fades as they get older. The ones left in my tacklebox now are all light pink - not at all what I want. Has anybody else noticed that the best color during the spring white bass run seems to change during the course of the run? Seems to me that white is often best at first, then chartreuse during the middle of the run, then purple towards the end. Maybe it's just me, but that's the way it seems. I've been playing with making some James River white bass jigs with glass beads, various weight sinkers, and dyed nylon twine. I bet this one will work during the "purple" phase of the run.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 20, 2010 Root Admin Posted January 20, 2010 I actually have a plum color and a purple - electric purple with a little blue glitter (my favorite). I have a bag each, 10,000 in each bag, that I haven't opened yet.... hence the "10,000". I think I have pics of each on http://lilleystacklestore.com These are the original swimming minnow made in Florida, not the knockoff carried by Lucky Strike. Not knocking the knock off's... some anglers are picky about getting one or the other.
