eric1978 Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Well, there are a few. But the lakes are still frozen. Broke a hole and caught 18 in a couple hours at one of the C & R lakes. Thought we might be in business by now, but the lakes are still entirely covered and there's more freezing weather coming next week. They were tearing up an orange Glo-ball. Caught a few on olive buggers and brown leeches, too. If you plan to go anytime soon, bring a rope and a weight with you to break the ice.

I thought you were studying your dictionary. Nice day, even if you had to deal with the ice. Â Â
eric1978 Posted January 23, 2010 Author Posted January 23, 2010 So that's where you've been. I thought you were studying your dictionary. You're never gonna let me live that one down are you? Went back out this morning and it was pretty dead. Don't know why, but they just weren't biting like they were yesterday.

stlfisher Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I fished forest park today and in a matter of half hour the ice broke off, blew to one end, and then melted. I have never seen it melt that fast and it opened the remaining 3/4 of the lake. What lake did you fish at Busch? I usually fish 28 during C&R, but with the weather has been so bad since Christmas I have only made out there twice this year. I am waiting for the annual massacre that takes place at Forest Park come Feb 1...it is actually quite depressing to watch. I won't even go there the first two weeks of Feb. Last year I was catching trout until mid April at 28 and saw a kid catch one in June at 22 at high noon on a huge popper nearly as large as the fish. Pretty funny actually. He and his mom were very confused until I told them it was trout from the winter time. It made his day though...
eric1978 Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 It was lake 28. The massacre is coming.
patfish Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I'm thinking the massacre started around Nov 1st out at BWL, especially at 28, with its back door guests.

Was at lake-21 this PM and there is a lot of open water. Fishing was good for me and one other guy who was using a short fly rod outfit. The few others there didn't last long in the cold and very windy conditions. Water temp is very cold, air temp was cold, and the wind made it very tough but the fish was hitting well. With the temps dropping again the next few days there may be a good coat of ice back on the lake, especially if the wind calms down.

Egg patterns have been good, as others have said.
