I hit the creek at about 2:30 and fished until 5:00. There were a few other fishermen up and down the creek, but I didn't notice anyone really slaying the fish. I really wanted to try out my new 3 pc. 5 wt. Okuma Cascade fly rod so I started off flinging a bunny bug in fast water. I had 3 really hard hits in deeper water but I wasn't able to get them stuck. Meanwhile there were a few fish busting the surface, but I couldn't see any sort of hatch so I tied on a Tan Zebra Midge and it was game on. In the next hour I managed to land 7 fish and jumped of at least that many.I moved upstream to a couple of other spots and caught 3 more from a couple of nice fast runs. I finished off the day in the same spot that I started and caught 2 more. Nothing really big, all fish were between 12" and 15" with the biggest being a nicely colored male.

I relly enjoyed the new rod. You know how it is when you can just pick up a rod and everything just feels right? Great way to end the month.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

Great report Buzz! I thought about going today, but sounds like you beat me to it! I knew somebody from around here could catch fish there. :)

Hey way to go there Buzz.

After I called you I ended up going down stream to a spot that sees little action even though it is practicaly next to the road. I was able to nail 5 drifting in under the cut bank. Man did they hit with power and authority! With the heavy fog and snow on the ground, it would have made some classic pic's!

I was really surpised to see that many fishermen out hitting Hickory. I saw 4 flyrodders and 2 spinners Sunday. Maybe they all read OAF!

Thanks for the report Denjac- would it be possible for you to post or PM me the recipe for the "bunny bug?" I'm not familiar with the pattern.

Thanks!

You know I caught a few that were hanging out right under the banks too. Just outside of the faster water.

And nobody busted their butt??

Not me anyway. At least not this trip.

It's just a smaller version of the Bunny Leech. Here's a link http://www.hatchesmagazine.com/page/may2006/176

I tie a few on #8's for some of the smaller streams I fish.
